Publisher's summary

Never have two species co-created a work of such suspense and humorous catitude as the wildly popular mystery series by Rita Mae Brown and Sneaky Pie Brown. This time out, that agile-witted tiger puss Mrs. Murphy makes the round of parties where Virginia's Very Best People mingle with some of the worst. Together, she and her human must unravel a veritable cat's cradle of ambition, greed, and murder at the center of which waits a killer with the most tangled of motives.
Hear talking cat-sleuth Mrs. Murphy in these other mysteries from Rita Mae Brown.

"Brown's proven brand of murder and mayhem played out against a background of Virginia gentility and idealized animals is once again up to scratch." (Publishers Weekly)

Good mystery

This was an easygoing mystery, nothing intense. The usual cast of characters. Harry seemed to be flip flopping on the romantic side while openly "dating" Fair + a new interest. I'd rather Harry have a new love interest in the series than keep doing this dance with Fair. I am kind of over their love story. But oh well. This wasn't one of my favorite Mrs Murphy mysteries as the suspense and conclusion weren't that gripping for me. Overall holds the tone of the series and a light listen. Kate Forbes as usual is a winning narrator!

Sneaky Pie Brown & Her Insights

A delightful listen! At first I found the running commentary re: the animals' thoughts a bit tedious and distracting but it didn't take long to be sucked into the plot. Once that happened, I was no longer conscious of the technique. Loved the bickering and banter among the animals. Lots of rich ironic twists in this plot. Lots of interesting characters. Loved Harry, the heroine. Will read (listen to) more by this author.

This was the best so far

I’ve listened to all of the books in order, and this one had me guessing right up to the end! I love the development in Harry and Fair’s relationship - it’s been repairing so organically. The animals have such fantastic personalities and are so unique. Also, that the main characters are not wealthy and sometimes worry about money or their homes or vehicles makes them more relatable than almost any book I’ve ever read

Mrs Murphy does it again!

A very complex double murder mystery with some surprise happenings! Lots of animals criticizing human nature for murder.

Not her best

I have been a Rita Mae Brown fan for years; this is simply not her best; we don't know why characters are even in this book; and while the ending was a bit unexpected, I was let down. It had its funny moments, but it simply wasn't up to par.

Strictly for cat lovers

If you truly are a cat lover and want to sit through endless dialogue between 2 cats and a dog, this is the book for you. Everyone else may want to pass. I've read many other books by this author and have enjoyed them. I doubt her co-author cat will win her any awards on this one. Really quite stupid.
