Publisher's summary

Emily McPhee has struggled to overcome her father's death....

It's not easy, but Emily finally has the life she wants. She's an A student at Orange University and has a comfortable home and a great circle of friends. She's also in love with handsome Orange PD officer Seth Connors. He doesn't seem to return her feelings, though, so she tells herself his friendship is enough.

Jimmy Lasko is a psychopath, and Emily is his greatest obsession....

Lasko knows what he wants - what he deserves - and has the deadly skills and unending patience to get it. What he wants is Emily, and he is watching and waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike. That time is coming soon; he'll make sure of it.

A sense of unease settles on Emily, but is the danger real or imagined?

When Emily begins hearing noises and suspects someone has been in her house, Seth urges her to get a roommate. But after a search, she realizes a certain attractive cop would be the perfect choice, and Seth moves in.

Seth loves Emily, but fears his feelings might make it difficult to protect her.

In all areas of his life, Seth sees himself as a protector. He's determined to keep Emily safe, but he pushes the captivating blonde away in an attempt to stay objective. However, after her stalker makes a failed attempt to capture her, Seth can no longer deny his feelings.

With help from Seth's police colleagues, he and Emily set out to identify the person hunting her before it's too late. But is it worth the risk to bait the trap with what he wants most?

Very Bad Narrated

I listened to whole Broken trilogy from J.L. Drake and absolutely loved. I decided to give a chance to this book and I can't tell I enjoy it. I finished it since I bought it but this book was so far the worse book I ever listened. The narration is very poor, she sounds tired and doesn't give the emotion that we expected from the narration in audio books.
The story also didn't caught me, the book is slow and predictable. I'm not listening to the next books because I have no interested in how this story continues.

narrator was killing me.

it was difficult to connect with the story because the narrator sounded so emotionless. then on top of that, aside from the drama sections, it felt like huge details were missing with regards to the development of Emily and Seth's romantic relationship. I never connected with them.

Good storyline, but the narrator is way too flat/monotone. could definitely have been read better.

Storyline is good, but narration is very monotone

Storyline is good, but narration is very monotone. There is no getting into character mode for the narrator, so at times, one can get confused as to which character POV she is reading. No inflection in her voice at all...she is just reading the script.

Books great, narration flat.

I want to start out saying that I am a big fan of J.L. Drake's books. I have read both series. Five stars for the books. They are well worth reading. I was looking forward to getting them on audio, but when I started listening to Darkness Lurks , I was very disappointed in the narrator. She lacks emotion. I could have turned on my Kindle's electronic reading and almost got as much emotion. Someone is stocking the heroine and you would have thought the narrator was telling you what she had for dinner. It had that much felling. I would have given the narrator a one star but I could not do that to the stories themselves, they are great.

Love hate

Love the story, HATE the narrator. So dry and dull and robotic. I’m curious who lied to her and said hey you can totally rock it as a narrator because she can’t. She reads it like a librarian during story time but with less will to live. I hope it’s just this story she failed and not all of them.

The Female Narrator

I don't understand why narrator's use that weard monitone voice. I like voices that express a range of emotion.

Very Suspenseful and Creepy

This was an interesting book. I'm not much for suspense, but I was definitely intrigued. I do like reading about stalkers and it was great reading parts from the stalkers pov. It made this book that much creepier and his intentions very ominous.

I did like Tia Sorensen a lot. She made me feel as unsteady and freaked out as the main character. I definitely like her voice. It's well worth it listening to this book in audio.

Emily is a very dumb main character. I didn't like any of the decisions she made. I hate when the main character does dumb things when she's in danger. Like deliberately doing things that can get her kidnapped or killed. I was also a little annoyed with her relationship with her roommate Seth, who is a cop and has feelings for Emily. They both acted childish in this relationship, but Seth really cared about Emily and made it his mission to protect her.

I will probably continue with this series because I obviously need to know what will happen next. It is very suspenseful and has lots of creepy scenes.
