Loved it

Fast paced, engaging, well executed first novel in this series. It grabbed me from the very beginning.

Exciting story with good battle scenes. Good narration. The story kept ia good pace with good characters

Excellent book. Engaging plot, well thought out and interesting from beginning to end. Narrator is phenomenal. The entire series, as well as the subsequent series, is just as good as the first book. Details of fleet engagements and other setting mechanics are deep and immersive. One qualm I have with the series as a whole is the mechanics of the fleet conferences held almost every chapter. I just can't seem to understand how it works. If only the author dedicated a paragraph every time the conference software was used to explain how though in reality the room was quite small, the virual imaging allowed for every commanding officer in the fleet to be present, and the room would subsequently expand to display a virtual image of the conference table. I just cannot comprehend how when officers joined in on the conference, the room would enlarge and subsequently shrink as they left, their virtual images popping out of existence. This was a major issue that I hope the author will rectify in the future.

I don't know what to say

At 1st I thought it was boring. missed most the beginning. then I realized there is no cursing no name calling. Just people talking.
the action was okay.
like how stories about space always seem to colorate with each other on how... ships moved through space on the time line of the upgrading. if you understand what I'm saying cause I'm not sure how to say it.

Though I am a fan of Christian Rummel, at times I has difficulty differentiating between dialog and inner monolog. Not to the point that it took me out of the story, it was a very good reading.

Such a great space drama

I’ve read this entire story, expanding over 10 books, enjoying every book and wanting more.

Great start to the series

It was well paced and engaging. hope in retread and holding it all together.

Solid start, bit over explained

I was looking for a new series after finishing the expanse series. This was recommended on a few websites, so I gave it a try. The story is compelling, however, the author over explains some situations to the point that it might be explained to a five-year-old. I suppose for some listeners that may make sense but for those who appreciate the genre, it is a bit over simplified. That said, I am continuing the series and hoping that it is a little less over explained in the next book in the series.

A Man’s book for Men

What goes around comes around never seemed a more valued sentiment. The things that we learn from mothers and fathers and from school and drill sergeants are not just things that can be packed away, or should be packed away. Genetics can only hand down so much . Our instincts need to be honed and forged . The are lessons that people need to learn and carry with them.

Excellent sense of inertia.

Author fumbles the introduction, with many questionable narrative decisions, but the author’s style and tone find their footing and manage to grab your attention with an impressive level of crisp technical competence.
