Publisher's summary

Ella Broden is living a double life.

By day, Ella works as a buttoned-up attorney on some of the city's most grueling cases. By night, she pursues her passion for singing in the darkest clubs of Manhattan.

No one knows her secret, not even Charlotte, the younger sister she practically raised. But it seems she's not the only one in the family with something to hide. When Charlotte announces she's sold her first novel, Ella couldn't be more thrilled...until she gets a call that her sister's gone missing.

Ella starts investigating with the help of Detective Gabriel Velasquez, an old flame in the NYPD, and what she finds is shocking. If art imitates life, then her sister's novel may contain details of her real-life affairs. And any one of her lovers could be involved in her disappearance.

Desperate to bring Charlotte home, Ella works through her list of suspects, matching fictitious characters with flesh-and-blood men. But will it be too late to save the sister she only thought she knew?

Suspension of disbelief a must.

I enjoyed this book & found it engrossing enough to overlook how hokey the plot was. The writing is probably what saved it from being snort-worthy.

I probably won’t read another from this author but it was a good way to pass the time during a spring clean. And it was on sale. 😊

Very enjoyable

I really enjoyed this story! It was well written and the narration was excellent. The idea of life imitating art is always intriguing

A page turner! Loved the mystery

I really enjoyed this book, but BOY oh BOY are there a lot of names! The narrator did a great job, but since the story is a book within a book and many of the characters have a book name, a real name and an AKA as part of the real life story, it was a little hard to follow along. I found I had to rewind a bit sometimes because I lost track of who they were talking about. Might have been a little easier in print.

I loved the mystery - and at times, I didn't even know it was a mystery! I was anxious to get into the car in the morning to pick up the story again.

Twists and turns galore!

Interesting, from one who is not easily surprised...it got me! Worthy of the Daily Deal price I paid for it.

Pretty good

Unexpectedly surprised by the book specially the narrator. She is quite good. I have not liked Adam Mitzner's previous books but this one was a little different even though some of the things that annoyed me are still here. Such as, there has to be an explanation after every sentence. It seems like academia instead of mystery. I wish he found another way to explain things.

In this book, every legal term was explained after almost every dialog which I had to tune out for the sake of the story. But in all, it was quite enjoying.

Keeps you glued

What did you love best about Dead Certain?

Narrated so well. keeps you totally glued. Nice story, if you miss some part you may lose a track that narrator is narrating on behalf of which character. Although, I definitely enjoy it.
I was not reading whole lot of murder mystery genre but with this book I certainly developed the taste

Predictable

I listened to the end in hopes it would have an ending that I didn’t expect, no luck.

Not the greatest or the worst.

The story keeps you listening and is captivating, but the main character for an educated proffesional in the form of a lawyer is not believable and irritating hence the 3 stars for story. Narrator was great.
