Publisher's summary

To stand against the F'dor - an ancient, vile being intent on destroying the world - a fellowship has been forged: Rhapsody, a Singer of great talent and beauty; Achmed, an assassin with unearthly talents; and Grunthor, a giant of jolly disposition and lethal skill with weapons. Driven by prophetic visions, the three know that time is running short, know that they must find their elusive enemy before his darkness consumes them all. But after their final, brutal confrontation with the F'dor, their world crosses the threshold of disaster and faces utter oblivion. The action reaches a fevered pitch, achieving a crescendo of tragedy, love, and triumph of human spirit over world-shattering cataclysm. With death at hand and the world crumbling at their feet, these three will finally discover their true Destiny.

Ok Rhapsody... This is a little old

So Rhapsody's continued obliviousness of the world finally got to me. All and all I still enjoyed the story as a whole but Rhapsody's blatant ignorance of the events around her and her new place in the world really severs the story for me. I would still recommend the story just brace yourself for her choices.

A little sappy, but I love this series!

What made the experience of listening to Destiny the most enjoyable?

I kept waiting for Rhapsody to get it on with Achmed. I know I'm goofy, but who else would have him? Ash and Rhapsody are just too... sappy. More Achmed, please!!!!!

Did Kevin T. Collins do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

The difference in characters is fairly good, but the narration has this sense of urgency that's sometimes annoying.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Romance and sap until you want to smack them!

Any additional comments?

Call me crazy, but can we fast forward to Rhapsody's romance with Achmed? He's my favorite character of the series.

mostly very good...parts of it...not so much

the overall first three books tells a story that is imaginative, creative and a wonderful listen. the narrator started out like a high schooler reading a foreign language, overly enunciated and dramatic, but by the third book i thoroughly enjoyed him. he got better with each book, and i enjoyed his ability to use so many different 'voices', all with their own distinctiveness.

i've often wondered what kind of mind is able to use words to describe actions in such a way that they are able to so sicken the soul. and for what purpose? when the old adage 'less is more' would have been put to better use. i do not see the need to be so detailed and graphic when describing scenes of battle or death, when one's mind is quite capable of 'seeing' these actions to the depth they are comfortable with without having it described in all it's unholy glory.

that being said, i loved the concept of this series. i enjoyed immensely the creativeness of the author. i think my favorite character is Gunther. this character brought humor and levity to help balance the books. i laughed out loud on many occasions. without this character i would not have been able to finish this third book. as it was i had to fast forward through the heart sickening parts. they were totally unnecessary to the book.

considering how each book became more detailed in the gory descriptions of fight scenes, and the actions of the Fedore and his thralls, i am not certain i will buy any more in this series, and i find that sad... i also do not appreciate that the first three books were each around thirty hours long and the rest of the series are each about half that. i look for good books with the best value... this series no longer fits that bill. i will say that if a series is good enough, i will continue with the series regardless of the cost. had it not been for the too dark parts, i would have put this series in the 'gotta have' pile.

Solid finish to the 1st three books

The third book wraps up the plot that began with the first novel, Rhapsody, very nicely. It's a highly enjoyable and refreshingly original storyline that most fantasy readers should find worth the time and expense. The only issue I had is with the Narrator. His choppy cadence is distracting and unfortunately will turn a lot of listeners away before they get invested in the first book in my opinion. Even after this third book I still have not been able to get used to the constant pausing in his speech. Otherwise it continues to be a gem of a series.

Amazing writer/ great narrator. I'm buying the 4th book! Can't wait to see what the next great adventure is!!!

I do not understand the reviews where they complain abt the narrator. If one person didn't like him does that encourage the rest to decide they are a critic? People please! I've listened thru some horrible narrators to where you just can't finish the book. This. Guy is really good. They way he tells the story brings it alive. He makes the characters real. He makes you laugh and can bring you to tears. You feel as if you know the characters. Like your right there struggling with them. The writer has created this beautiful but dangerous adventure with characters you come to love. I hope she always keeps the story going and keeps her interesting and unique characters alive in the story as well. Even in the books you see how life is precious. both writer and narrator make an incredible team. May rhapsody and her loyal friends always have new roads to travel and take us along the way 👣

Epic fantasy that will keep u coming back for more

I LOVE this series! It is my absolute FAVE books; #1 on my loooong list of beloved books. This audio performance is a wonderful credit to the books & to the author, Elizabeth Haydon. First of all, Haydon brought to life a gorgeous, intriguing, imaginative, absorbing world full of a vivid cast of characters that draw you in & pull you into experiencing their world. The eternal battle between good & evil, greed & compassion, love & hate is so well expressed that it's easy to feel assimilated into each characters emotions & experiences. There are some that you love or connect with, that you feel their struggle to maintain & create a more peaceful land, & root for them to overcome the powers that are against them & win the battle for good & life. There are others that you hate, that you exhort to fail in their mission to destroy the world & the souls of the population for evil. The terrain, the people, the ambiance becomes almost real enough to touch. Magic, power, blood, desire, sword fighting, dragons, royalty, hate, love...... If you are a lover of epic fantasies then this should DEFINITELY give this book a read & see if you end up reading the entire series over & over. Second, the narration is wonderful & beautifully performed. The ability to create, express, & maintain distinctive, different voices for EVERY speaking character through each book is one that he has absolutely nailed! He vocalized the emotions & action in a manner that makes it seem as if you are standing next to the characters, in their world with them, fully fashioning a realm, allowing you to get lost in the beauty & heartbreak of her universe. I can't praise & recommend these books enough to everyone looking for an epic fantasy that will keep you reaching for just one more read through, just one more escape into another universe full of all the ingredients that makes the genre so special! 5 stars across the board. Give it a read.... I promise you won't regret it!

Great book but yes the main character is annoying

Make no mistake, this is an incredible series. I really love all the character development that was put into the first two books, especially the first. However, Rhapsody’s continued bad decisions to trust, adopt, and ignore blatant signs of danger will enrage you. She consistently puts everyone she cares for at risk by trusting everyone and will argue for pages about how she doesn’t care if it hurts her while ignoring it could hurt everyone else.

On top of that I was a bit bummed that she did not get with Achmed in this book, I know that author built up for Rhapsody and her intended since the first book, but the romance as it came upon in their adulthood didn’t make any sense to me. She didn’t even seem to like him until he mentioned wanting her, and it just kinda felt forced and rushed unlike her fluid one with Achmed.

The narrator was amazing, it took me a while to get use to his cadence in the first book, but his varying voices for each character was perfect I especially liked Achmed and Gruntor’s voice the best. By the third book he seemed more sure of his narration, more comfortable and it moved fluidly.

As for the third book as a whole. I liked this one a lot better than the last two, although the first two were good they each had little things in them that didn’t fit right. Such as Jo’s adoption and her fate all felt so forced between her and Rhapsody. I only ever felt anything for that character because of Gruntor and their relationship. This one however, gets straight into it. You also get some deliciously depicted battle scenes unlike the first two and it feels like there’s much more action.
