Publisher's summary

In a tiny Arkansas town, high school football is religion, and there will always be people who will go to any lengths to protect their faith - even murder.

In Denton, Arkansas, the fate of the high school football team rests on the shoulders of Billy Lowe, a volatile but talented running back. Billy comes from an extremely troubled home: a trailer park where he is terrorized by his unstable mother’s abusive boyfriend. Billy takes out his anger on the field, but when his savagery crosses a line, he faces suspension.

Without Billy Lowe, the Denton Pirates can kiss their playoffs bid good-bye. But the head coach, Trent Powers, who just moved from California with his wife and two children for this job, has more than just his paycheck riding on Billy’s bad behavior. As a born-again Christian, Trent feels a divine calling to save Billy - save him from his circumstances and save his soul.

Then Billy’s abuser is found murdered in the Lowe family trailer, and all evidence points toward Billy. Now nothing can stop an explosive chain of violence that could tear the whole town apart on the eve of the playoffs.

One of the best books I've listened to ever.

I am one of those people who listens to many books a week. I fell into this one. The author should do narration for a living if he ever gives up writing. I love to listen to Will Patton but Eli Cranor is my new favorite narrator. This is a book that I will think about for a while. The second book by the author is just as good.

Talented Author

I purchased the author's 2nd book as a Daily Deal. Enjoyed it so much, I gave this one a try. Glad I did. I believe the author will have a long, successful career as a writer. And he does a wonderful job as narrator. Bravo!

A Short and compelling listen

Football. Small town, Southern characters set against a backdrop of murder. Nice to have the author narrating to give it exactly the way it was intended.

Wow! You gotta listened to this one.

This is definitely one of the best books I have listened to. A “though” story about how the life can be sometimes and the different situation we face in life. Golden star to Eli for really getting into the book and creating different voices to the characters. It makes a great experiences to listen to.

Excellent

Not the story I expected—more honest and heartbreaking. I hope he writes another book.

Buy the book

It just doesn't work as an audible book , wish I had read it then I could have picked the voices telling the story .

Great Narrator and Great Book!

I always cringe when I see an author narrated their book- sometimes they do ok, but I'd rather have a professional. But Eli Cranor was one of the best narrators I've ever listened to, and this was a great, sad and engrossing book.

Great author

I understand this is his first book, home run!! Great book and his narration is spot on. Most of the times when the author narrates its bad, but not this time. Great story with some clever twists. Highly recommended
