Publisher's summary

Knives Out and Clue meet Agatha Christie and The Thursday Murder Club in this “utterly original” (Jane Harper), “not to be missed” (Karin Slaughter), fiendishly clever blend of classic and modern murder mystery.

“A witty twist on classic whodunits… Stevenson not only 'plays fair,' he plays the mystery game very, very well.”—Maureen Corrigan, Washington Post

Everyone in my family has killed someone. Some of us, the high achievers, have killed more than once. I’m not trying to be dramatic, but it is the truth. Some of us are good, others are bad, and some just unfortunate.

I’m Ernest Cunningham. Call me Ern or Ernie. I wish I’d killed whoever decided our family reunion should be at a ski resort, but it’s a little more complicated than that.

Have I killed someone? Yes. I have.

Who was it?

Let’s get started.

Funny

I enjoyed it for being funny and it’s many twists and turns. I also enjoy a mystery that doesn’t have explicit sex and has a hint of romance.

Cheeky Murder Mystery

Absolutely fantastic story and plot and narration. As much as I tried, I could not predict the ending. Will be recommending this book to all my crime loving friends. Barton Welch was an excellent addition to this story. I am so glad I listened instead of reading because his narration brought the main character to life. Now off to find more books written by Benjamin Stevenson..

Fun book!

I really enjoyed this book.
It was different and original, and each character was developed and interesting. I liked the style of writing, and the sense of humor that was injected into the story at random times.
I definitely recommend this book for someone who enjoys a funny mystery.

Charming

Cunning, charming, intelligent, well explained. I really enjoyed this. Barnes and Noble recommended to me and the audible was absolutely wonderful. This book alone will have me auto buying Benjamin Stevenson for a lifetime.

My first favorite in a king time.

I liked that while it was murder mystery with sufficient potentially gross detail, it wasn’t gruesome and scary enough to follow me. The plot was refreshing and I couldn’t predict where it was going. I did not see the twist at the end coming. And writing up that a smidge smoother would be the only thing that could have improved this clever book. I highly recommend!

Incredible!

I could not stop listening to this book. I can usually guess the ending of the books I read, but this one had me wondering the whole time. So well written, perfectly performed, great story line. 100% recommend!!

Fun but Ridiculous

As the mystery genre goes, this falls on the more outlandish end of the scale. The novel is meta, as the narrator deconstructs the genre into rules, and then attempts to bend but not break each one. Mileage will vary by reader, but the result is entertaining. I wish I understood what was wrong with the page numbers. It didn't translate to audio.

Clever and fresh

Highly recommended. The narrator’s performance is strong, the plot has plenty of twists, and the adaptation of print to audio was thoughtful.

Such a great listen.

This was our book club’s read this month. Normally I read them, but this time I had a long drive coming so I grabbed the audio copy of this book. It was perfect. Engaging and written as if meant to be listened to. It was a great story, I highly recommend it.
