About this listen

Artist Arik Bosler is terrified he might have lost his creative gift in the accident that left his hand badly burned. When he's offered the chance to work with renowned artist Ken Brighton, Arik fears his injury will be too much to overcome.

He travels to Pleasanton to meet Ken, where he runs into the intimidating Reg Thompson. Reg, a biker who customizes motorcycles, is a big man with a heart of gold who was rejected by most of his family. Arik is initially afraid of Reg because of his size. However, it's Reg's heart that warms Arik's interest and gets him to look past the exterior to let down his guard.

But Arik soon realizes that certain members of Reg's motorcycle club are into things he can't have any part of. Reg can't understand why Arik disappears, until he learns Arik's injury was the result of his father's drug activity. Though neither Reg nor Arik wants anything to do with drugs, the new leadership of Reg's club might have other ideas.

good but long for my taste

I enjoyed the story but thought it got a little long. several times I thought it could have ended but kept going. Worth the credit.

Excellent narration elevates this earnest story

What made the experience of listening to Love Comes to Light the most enjoyable?

The voice talent of Greg Tremblay breathes life into each character, giving them such unique qualities dialog tags are rarely necessary. His delivery is never static and it's geared to listeners who can absorb the spoken word at normal listening speeds.

What other book might you compare Love Comes to Light to and why?

This is a fairly standard MM romance, the 6th in the Senses series, and is representative of many other Andrew Gray titles.

What about Greg Tremblay’s performance did you like?

Greg Tremblay makes almost seamless adjustments when moving from one character voice to another, as well as using a clear, concise narrative delivery. His talent elevates the content above cliches and formulaic storytelling.

Any additional comments?

Love Comes to Light is a lovely, and quite earnest, tale of learning to accept the limitations life sometimes lays down, and then finding ways to overcome those barriers, to live in the moment fully and completely. Thematically, the story focuses heavily on family, on the interconnectedness of friends and strangers, and on giving second chances in the face of perceived failures.
Over all Love Comes to Light is definitely a feel good homage to family and enablement. The ending is as expected and quite satisfying. The small plot gaps, the formulaic style, and the clichés are easily overlooked in this audiobook version because the narrator breathes so much life into the characters.

Sweet with terrific narration!

Any additional comments?

Oh, Greg Tremblay, how do I love the sweet, sweet sounds of your narration? A lot.

This is a simple, sweet story with low angst about letting go the past and moving on with your future. One of the things I love about Greg Tremblay's narration of Love Comes To Light is the way he brings Arik and Reg to life. For Tremblay it's not just reading words on paper, he makes the characters seem alive. Tremblay perfectly captures the newfound confidence Arik begins to feel under the mentorship of Ken and Patrick, and Reg's almost unconditional love.

I love the way Reg broke through Arik's walls and called him on his shit when Arik was trying to use his past as an excuse for not moving on.

My biggest complaint is actually the way too sweet and everything's come up roses ending. It is just a little too over the top perfect for me. The rest of the story felt pretty realistic, if overly optimistic and sweet at times, but the HEA ending felt like it took sweet and magnified it to the nth degree.

But for those who not only love a sweet story, but a super awesome, everything is perfect ending, you'll be in seventh heaven.

For me, the narration was what made the story shine. I really enjoyed it. I admit I haven't read any of the other books in the Senses series, however, I was easily able to follow along, never felt like I was missing anything, and look forward to checking out the rest of the series.

So excited when I saw the narrator

What did you love best about Love Comes to Light?

I love this series. I already own them on kindle and purchased the first three in audio and was so disappointed that I vowed not to buy the others and stick to kindle for them only. When I saw that one of my favorite narrators was involved I actually whopped out loud. I wish he'd go back and do the rest so I could listen to them.

Any additional comments?

This series is so very awesome. Each book is one that will touch your heart and I have reread them many times. Like I said the narrator changed this time around and it was for the better. Greg Tremblay performed wonderfully and I was so excited to get to listen to this that I stopped the book I was currently listening to and jumped ahead.
Andrew Grey is a favorite author of mine. There is so many series of his that I enjoy but I have a soft spot for this one. From the very first book I just fell in love. One of the great parts of this book is seeing all the old couples back again. Made such a lovely story.

Great series - LOVE the new Narrator!

This is the sixth book in the senses series and in this book we experience “touch”. Arik has lost partial use of his hand and feeling in that hand is important as he’s a painter. He thinks his career as an artist is over until he wins a contest with Ken – from Book 1 – who is still painting and sees something in Arik’s work.

Arik has a troubled past and is wary of big guys like Reg, but also attracted to him too. Reg is very attracted to Arik and willing to work through his issues because he sees something in him that he thinks he wants around forever.

There’s some drama with Reg’s Motorcycle Club and Arik’s family and we get to see the guys from Book 4 too.

All in all this was another great addition to the series and I think fans of the series will really like it. It can be read as a standalone but is better if read in order.

Audio

Greg Tremblay is such a joy to listen to. He is so easy on the ears! I always know when he narrates a story, that no matter what, I’ll have a great time listening to it. He differentiates characters so well, adds in appropriate and honest emotion, has a wonderful sense of timing and always adds to my overall enjoyment of a story. In this case, there are no significant accents, but he manages to portray who is speaking clearly without manufacturing something artificial to achieve this.

Highly recommended!
