Story
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them. With fewer dragons willing to bond than cadets, most would kill Violet to better their own chances of success.

Story
So many stories begin the same way: With a prophecy. A chosen one. And the inevitable quest to slay a villain, save the kingdom, and fulfill a grand destiny. But this is not that kind of story. It does begin with a prophecy: A child will rise to defeat the Eternal Khan, a cruel immortal god-king, and save the kingdom. And that prophecy did anoint a hero, Jian, raised since birth in luxury and splendor, and celebrated before he has won a single battle.

This is the way the world ends...for the last time. It starts with the great red rift across the heart of the world's sole continent, spewing ash that blots out the sun. It starts with death, with a murdered son and a missing daughter. It starts with betrayal, and long dormant wounds rising up to fester. This is the Stillness, a land long familiar with catastrophe, where the power of the Earth is wielded as a weapon. And where there is no mercy.

Incredible
I throughly enjoyed this series. While I’m sad there isn’t another book to follow this truly was such a great ending. I’ll be on the look out for any Sue Lynn Tan books from here on out. She’s an incredible story teller. And the narrator for this audiobook was brilliant. Over all the story and performance was just enchanting. 10 out of 10. Well done!

Exactly what I needed but didn’t expect
I loved this book. The narrator does a great job. The story is fantastic. The character development was great. It tugged at my heart strings. Made me angry. Made me cry. Made me made at the author, then love her. I love that it is a two book series rather than 4-6 books. It does not feel drawn out. I highly recommend.

Fantastic
Excellently written and read, captivating and poignant. I would recommend both this and Daughter of the Moon Goddess.

Everything I could have wanted!!!
Such a beautiful story all the way till the very end. Everything I could have wanted in a sequel and more. This one is going to be a forever favorite.
The mythology and folklore woven throughout the story alongside the depth and emotion brought everything to life in such a vivid way.

Absolutely amazing
Nothing to say except I really loved and enjoyed this stunning sequel, I thought that the first book Daughter of the Moon Goddess was perfect and didn’t think that the sequel would top it but I was happily mistaken 🖤

Brave Love
Oh my stars…. This was so amazing Ms Tan. Every battle, every sorrow, every joy and heartbreaks. Well written. So much so, I now own the hardbacks of both. Thank you for transporting us to realms far and wide with Chang’e
