Why study and pray the prayers of the Apostle Paul? One word: transformation. Of the many benefits we have in learning from Paul, a few stand out: 1. We see how the Holy Spirit wants us to pray. Scripture provides a wealth of prayers inspired by the Holy Spirit, each of them giving a glimpse into the unsearchable wisdom of Almighty God. These prayers should shape our priorities and our entire outlook on life. So often, we pray such small, self-centered prayers instead of asking how God would have us pray. As we read and pray Paul's prayers, God will work His purposes in us as we contemplate...

Soldiers of Christ must, like soldiers of our nation, wear their uniforms; and if they are ashamed of their uniforms, they ought to be drummed out of the army. I believe that many Christians get into a lot of trouble by not being honest in their convictions. For instance, if a person goes into a workshop, or a soldier into a barracks, and if he does not fly his flag from the beginning, it will be very difficult for him to run it up afterward.

Spurgeon's masterpiece on grace from Romans 4:5 is an outstanding description of God's love and unmerited grace to us. It is one of the clearest examples of salvation by grace ever written. Spurgeon's masterpiece is one the finest expositions ever penned on faith, repentance, and regeneration.

Delighting in God is the message Tozer intended to be the follow-up to The Knowledge of the Holy. He demonstrates how the attributes of God - those things God has revealed about himself - are a way to understand the Christian life of worship and service. We are here to serve and adore him, but we can fulfill that role only by acknowledging who he is, which is the essence of the Christian life and the source of all our fulfillment, joy, and comfort.

Prayer combines the best of Tozer on prayer into one volume. Tozer was captured by the great wonder of God, and he regarded prayer as the primary means of coming into his presence. But if our everyday life is filled with the barrenness of busyness and there is no serious urgency to pray, we forfeit the wonder of being conformed to the image of Christ and knowing our God more intimately - the true Christian life.

The life of Elijah has gripped the thought and imagination of preachers and writers in all ages. His sudden appearance out of complete obscurity, his dramatic interventions in the national history of Israel, his miracles, his departure from the earth in a chariot of fire all serve to that end. He comes in like a tempest, who went out like a whirlwind. The first we hear from him is an oath and a threat. It is fitting that the lessons which may be drawn from Elijah's ministry should be presented afresh to our generation.

Since the days of the early church, Christians have struggled to understand the relationship between two seemingly contradictory concepts in the Bible: law and gospel. If, as the Apostle Paul says, the law cannot save, what can it do? Is it merely an ancient relic from Old Testament Israel to be discarded? Or is it still valuable for Christians today?

Spurgeon's writings are an excellent source of Godly information. The devotionals are Spirit-guided and timely. Each one echoes down through the centuries to remind the reader of the Bible's application for every challenge of life and faith. it would be nice to have all 365 days included in the audiobook. Mine stopped at evening, Dec 26.

Much Wisdom, Strong Bible Knowledge
Morning and Evening by C. H. Spurgeon is very edifying listening. He knows the scriptures very well and has much wisdom. He uses Elizabethan Language and one must pay close attention to benefit from the depth of widom laced in his silver-tonged style. He is very learned and very descriptive with words, that with the "thous," and "thees," make it necessary to listen closely, but if you do, it will be very worth your while. You have to think with him as you listen as he loads his words with great depth of meaning. The book contains a short teaching for the morning and evening of each day, so it is not hard to focus. The spiritual depth gives one a divine connection where one is lifted above the natural realm to where the Holy Spirit can feed your spirit.

Listened twice!
Love this book. Listened to it twice in 2019. In the background while doing things and started my mornings with it.

Inspired
Absolutely one of the best books I've read. I'll be giving it as gifts to people. Especially to newlyweds.

Wonderful audiobook with one technical flaw
Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING devotional has became a regular and important part of my day. The author's teaching from God's Word is instructive, comforting, and encouraging. James Adams is the best narrator of all the Spurgeon books I have listened to and I wish he had been used more extensively, especially in THE TREASURY OF DAVID. My only criticism is that the recording is not broken down by dates and listed under "chapters" as the devotionals themselves are. Instead, 365 days of devotionals are split up into 23 chapters that are also not identified as to their contents under "chapters." I have other devotional audiobooks that do a better job of breaking down and identifying the days/dates so that if I get behind or miss some days I can find the reading for the day I want. Thank you.

A devotional classic. Tech could be improved
I enjoy the text and the reading very much. It's a little annoying to find the appropriate day if you get off schedule, but it's not too much of a burden.
My biggest issue is that the recording ends at 12/26. This may be an issue with the publisher because our local library's online audiobook service ended the book at the same spot. Besides this, I'm happy to have the title for the other 359 days of the year.
