Publisher's summary

Uh, I always hate doing introductions. Let's see...I'm Mark from Pensacola, a sprawling town in Florida. Don't judge me too harshly. There are plenty of decent jobs, cheap rent, and affordable schooling. I work at Pete's Pancake's, loving the night shift. Well, one evening, a mysterious woman comes into the diner, dripping blood from a cut on her hand. She's not drunk like the usual ones, she's wearing cosplay with pockets, and she leaves an odd spark coursing through me when I bandage her wound. After returning to visit me during my shifts for a full week, we build up a chemistry, only to have it vanish when she disappears.

To be honest, I put her behind me, finishing off my business degree and eager to finally get a daytime job just like my like parents hoped for. Slight problem, though; the same stunning woman stumbles up to my tiny apartment building without an invitation, showering my carpet in her blood. She swears she'll heal by morning, or I can take her to the hospital. Here's the craziest part: Magic knits her wound closed. When I plead for her to tell me what happened, I wished I never opened my mouth.

I couldn't put this book down. Listened to it all the way through in one sitting, standing, and walking. Han Yang did a great job and both narrators did fantastic.

outstanding

an interesting take on reverse culture. highly entertaining and hilarious. the world the author created is greatly detailed and the mc holds his own. the plot line is unique to something I haven't encountered before. it was something I got though without even realizing it. highly recommend and greatly anticipate the next volume.

Another great book by Han Yang. You will not be disappointed. Also the dual narration really brings the story to life.

Yes, it's worth your time and money

in my experience a little bit of context goes a long way. First and foremost, I always take it easy on the first and last book of any series. First can be inherently shaky endeavors and not every story makes it to “The End.” Next, I try and refrain from talking about the second half of any book I'm leaving a review on in an attempt to avoid spoilers. With those caveats out of the way on to the review. So, the story starts out fairly similar to others in this type of genre. We've got a mediocre MC working towards this bachelor’s in business while working at a pancake shop, when he ends up meeting a strange yet alluring lady who appears to be road weary and slightly bloody. after patching her up something of a friendly relationship starts that continues over the course of several weeks. Eventually as the story progresses things accelerate to the extreme. you see like it says in the title the lady is a sorceress and apparently by touching her she activates his latent power. But the weirdness does not stop there because it turns out that she is from another world that is the twin of our own but apparently it is like looking through a funhouse mirror. You see, her world is a matriarchal society where like something out of the old school space stories or even as recent as next generation there is a whole planet of women with Amazonian type characteristics and men are treated in a traditional female role. How are young hero finds himself mixed up with his own government and a bid to keep this secret. After having been roughed up and given a second chance at life considering that as far as they're concerned, he doesn't know anything he's chucked through the portal to this new world. Lo and behold he finds that he is grown where it matters and then he looks at the horse and realizes Nope he shrunk everywhere except for where it matters. This author in my opinion is a fantastic writer, and the story definitely hooks you early and keeps you entertained throughout. If for some reason you don't like the story, I imagine that the major drawback is that the women don't shave their armpits and not because the story is not a good one. It is likely my humor is not going to do well in text form but that is the only drawback that I can see for why you wouldn't give this story a shot. Like I said the MC unlike the other gentleman on this new world has magic which gives him an edge. One more thing which is the narrators who did a fantastic job in performing the story. Basically, like I've titled this review I enjoyed the story and I do think it's worth your time and money.

just when you think you know..... you don't

The plot in this book is more twisted than a candy cane. You think you know who is on what side then the author flips the table. if this doesn't get a sequel I will be rather upset.

Pretty good

It's a slow build series that has a lot of potential. Can't wait for the next installment so I can continue the story.

Good Concept

Narrator's are good.
Story could have used some work here and there.
It's not terrible, but I'm stopping with book one.
