Publisher's summary

Natural Hospital Birth, Updated Edition shows how to apply the guidelines and tactics of natural birth in a hospital setting, where 99 percent of births take place.

Many mothers-to-be find themselves torn between the desire for a natural childbirth with minimal medical intervention and the peace of mind offered by instant access to life-saving technology that only a hospital can provide. In Natural Hospital Birth, doula Cynthia Gabriel asserts that there is no good reason women should not be able to have both.

Cynthia shows expectant mothers what they can do to avoid unnecessary medical interventions and how to take initiative and consciously prepare for the kind of birth they want to have. Also included are inspiring stories from other women who know firsthand that natural birth in the hospital is possible.

With this audiobook, mothers-to-be will be equipped with the knowledge they need to ensure a satisfying hospital birth they will look back on with peace and joy.

Empowering Book for Mom Rights at the Hospital

I will start by saying I ended up with an Emergency C-Section. I read this book as a first time mom and found this book helpful in knowing what to expect and what I can ask for as a birthing Mother. My Dr. did not cover anything in this book. I wanted an unmedicated birth but I was open to accepting when I needed medication. This book can help you craft a birth plan and familiarize you with your options during birth.

Essential

Absolutely loved this book. The narration was a bit tiring at times but kept my attention overall. The content is really what hooked me. The topics were fact-based, and solutions presented supported an empowered, informed, respectful, and transformative birth experience. The ultimate end goal of birth is of course a healthy mama first, then a healthy baby. But I was so moved by Cynthia Gabriel's perspective on how important consent and overall experience is. There are significant repercussions to a traumatic birth. This was a treasure trove of tools that first time or experienced mamas can use to move toward the goal of a beautiful and transformative birth experience. You deserve it! Pregnancy and birth is not inherently pathological or requiring medical intervention. It is wonderful to have medical tools at your disposal if things may take a turn.

Wonderful and eye-opening

This book has given me the knowledge to move forward with my birth experience with confidence and purpose. I will likely go back through it as the big day approaches to retain all of the information

I feel much more prepared

I really think this book is exactly what I needed. She did a great job of laying out all the information I need and how to converse with medical staff without demonizing medical staff. Helped me know why certain interventions are used in order to make informed decisions. Best book I’ve found about birth yet.

Great resource without being pushy!

it's my first pregnancy and I'm interested in a natural birth at a hospital. I thought thus was well written, and wasn't too hippy dippy. Highly recommend!

Must read for natural hospital aspirations

Empowering mentally and emotionally and intellectually. Took so much away from this book! Confirmed beliefs for me, but also challenged me to think about things and to discuss certain aspects with my husband.
