On Blue's Waters is the start of a major new work by Gene Wolfe, the first of three volumes that comprise The Book of the Short Sun, which takes place in the years after Wolfe's four-volume Book of the Long Sun.
Horn, the narrator of the earlier work, now tells his own story. Though life is hard on the newly settled planet of Blue, Horn and his family have made a decent life for themselves. But Horn is the only one who can locate the great leader Silk and convince him to return to Blue and lead them all to prosperity. So Horn sets sail in a small boat, on a long and difficult quest across the planet Blue in search of the now legendary Patera Silk. The story continues in In Green's Jungles and Return to the Whorl.

Amazing!
This was amazing! Gene Wolfe continues to blow my mind. This is shocking in parts, frustrating, and sometimes a little tough and raw with some hard subject matter. In other parts rich, beautiful, and poetic. This is another amazing story just as philosophical as new sun with all the complexity wolf is known for. There is more going on here then is on the surface. Careful reading or listening recommend.

Getting the hang of Wolfe
Nous on my ninth book in the series I'm better understanding Wolfe's writing style. A very worthy entry in my favorite series.
The performance was great; the reader is clear and separates character voices nicely.

Wonderful!
Culp in an inspired reader of one of Wolfe's best books. My only snags came with his pronunciation of Krait and Pajaracou, which were bizarre. Anyone who has not read the book will never notice though.
