Publisher's summary

“Provocative, insightful, and enlightening - a foray into an often-neglected topic that merits more attention than it typically receives.” (Lee Strobel, New York Times best-selling author of The Case for Christ)

What is our fascination with the other side?

Join investigative reporter Billy Hallowell as he delves into the strange phenomena of supernatural activity. Themes of demonic possession, exorcism, and ghosts have overtaken Hollywood, with countless films and TV shows delving into the age-old struggle against evil. But the question is why?

Even with so much focus on the topic, there seems to be very little public knowledge and discussion about the theology and real-life claims surrounding demons. Quite often, many people remain silent about their experiences or resort to quietly whispering about what they’ve seen, heard, or felt for fear of being labeled as crazy.

The truth is, even pastors, priests, and clergy who have observed firsthand accounts of possession and deliverance can succumb to the strange and terrifying effects of intense spiritual warfare.

For people of faith, Playing with Fire will address these core questions:

  • Are demons active today?
  • If they do indeed exist, what are they? Are they fallen angels? Nephilim?
  • Can demons inhabit human beings?
  • According to the Bible, can people die and remain behind as “ghosts”?

Playing with Fire explores the theological underpinnings surrounding the supernatural. Relying on firsthand accounts, newspaper reports, and Christian experts, Hallowell takes listeners through the various views and perspectives surrounding supernatural activity.

Very Informative

For me, this book was a great reminder to take evil seriously, but most importantly, I learned many things about scripture and the theology surrounding this subject.

Loved the way the subject was organized and delivered.

Gently guided the listener through a heavy sometimes terrifying subject. Helps clarify definitions, traditions and various points of view about what really happens giving voice to the demonized to the exorcists to the psychologists to the pastors, and to the scholars.

I experienced a peacefulness listing to this book, oddly. I’m grateful to hear a journalist’s methodology at work through the eyes of a believer

Every mature believer should hear or read this book. And honestly, I had so many questions afterward I love to hear a Q&A session with him and maybe the others he spoke to writing this book.

statistical surveys and peoples personal accounts. Lots of sources excited and research brought forward.

If you don't understand what Biblical world view is Comma this is a great place to start. lots of professing Believers in Christ, do not understand nor admit the power of cultural influences. loved talking about mental and psychiatric points of view. clearly defining terminology like oppression, depression also different levels of deals with demons to exorcism. Well done.

Sobering, But Not Fearful Reminder

This is an excellent work by Halloween about the reality of the demonic in our world, and that this matter should not be taken lightly. Coupled with this reminder is that we as Christians have been given the authority by Christ to cast out these demons and deliver those in bondage, but we should remain close to Christ and consider all factors involved. Excellent account of stories, Scripture, interviews with ministers and professionals. Great book!

Social applicability.

All Christians should hear this book. I believe this book is a testament to our current situation, particularly in the United States. Social unrest and hatred of one another. So much to take in and learn how to expose the dark and have faith in the light.
