Resumen del Editor

THE INSTANT SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER and perfect for fans of Cathy Glass, a new powerful true story from Maggie Hartley, foster carer for over 20 years.

'Mummy! Where did you go? Please come back, Mummy.'

When police are called to a local supermarket late one evening, they find an angry shopkeeper and a silent young woman. It's the third time 24-year-old Zoe has been caught stealing in the past few days. Eyes filled with panic, Zoe has been hiding bread, milk, Calpol and nappies under her coat. As police officers break down the door of Zoe's flat they find seven-year-old Coco and two-year-old Lola, home alone, huddled on the floor in a freezing cold bedroom, crying out for their mummy.

When Social Services are called in, the girls are taken into care and are soon tucked up safely in bed at Maggie's house. It looks like a simple case of neglect, but things aren't always what they seem and, with Maggie's help, can Zoe convince Social Services that love is enough to be a good mum?

So nice to hear a story about a good mummy!

From the very first chapter anyone who knows Maggie Hartley’s stories can spot in an instant that this story of “neglected children” is going to be different. We’ve heard her stories about neglected children “pooing” and “weeing” on the kitchen floor, stuffing crisps in their mouths by the handful without asking and looking at Maggie like she’s crazy when she presents them with a toothbrush, toilet, or warm, bubbly bathtub. This story is immediately a different situation. This is a young Mother with no support and no money who is doing the best she can with the very little she has but her children are well mannered, clean, and socialized. Maggie brings her kindness, grace, and non-judgmental love to the situation as expected. Every Mom can identify with loving a child more than anything and sometimes being faced with impossible choices. The mother in this story is very relatable and unfortunately she makes some poor choices that land her in trouble. It’s beautiful seeing her go from the bottom to a safe spot on top. With this book Maggie has done it again! I think that’s why she’s everyone’s favorite foster carer and she also feels like a good friend! I love her books and always get on the pre release list and as usual this book doesn’t disappoint. Hooray for Maggie Hartley!
