Publisher's summary

R.L. Stine, New York Times best-selling author of the Goosebumps and Fear Street series - the biggest selling children’s books of all time - delivers a terrifying new adult horror novel centered on a town in the grip of a sinister revolt.

Before there was J. K. Rowling, before there was Stephenie Meyer or Suzanne Collins, there was R.L. Stine. Witty, creepy, and compulsively readable, he defined horror for a generation of young listeners - listeners who have now come of age.

Travel writer Lea Sutter finds herself on a small island off the coast of South Carolina, the wrong place at the wrong time. A merciless, unanticipated hurricane cuts a path of destruction and Lea barely escapes with her life. In the storm’s aftermath, she discovers orphaned twin boys and impulsively decides to adopt them. The boys, Samuel and Daniel, seem amiable and immensely grateful; Lea’s family back on Long Island - husband Mark and their two children, Ira and Elena - aren’t quite so pleased. But even they can’t anticipate the twins’ true nature - or predict that, within a few weeks’ time, Mark will wind up implicated in two brutal murders, with the police narrowing in.

For the millions of listeners who grew up on Goosebumps, and for every fan of deviously inventive horror, this is a must-listen from a beloved master of the genre.

Critic reviews

"I picked up R. L. Stine's Red Rain and for the life of me couldn't put it down. From the opening scene - which is plenty shocking - a terrifying and original story unspools that draws the reader in like a moth to flame. The suspense builds to the breaking point and goes beyond...and beyond. This is a sophisticated thriller with real characters, crisp writing, and a wicked sense of humor. Keep this book far, far away from your kids." (Douglas Preston)
"This is the moment I've been terrified of - when R. L. Stine decided he wasn't just going to scare children, but that he would focus his power on frightening the rest of us. Ready to be haunted by the master? Red Rain proves he's got nightmares for us all." (Brad Meltzer)
" Red Rain is a slam-bang, stay-up-all-night, leave-the-lights-on thriller. R. L. Stine has scared kids for years. Now it's our turn...." (Harlan Coben)

One of Stine's Best

Fantastic performance from Michael Cerveris! Each character had a distinct voice and his acting was brilliant, dramatic and never hammy. the story itself is great, a quick, taught thriller. Good balance of gore and suspense.

Wonderful narration. Surprise ending.

Loved R.L. Stine books when I was a teenager. I was delighted to find an adult audiobook by one of my favorite authors. And I do mean “adult” audio. Thank you Mr. Stine for the naughty scenes that made me blush as I listened to it at work. Great listen. Highly recommend.

Definitely RL Stine

It wasn't a bad story, in fact I loved the beginning. It became very much like a Goosebumps episode about mid way through however and although I like Goosebumps, I was hoping for something more than a couple of kids who wanted to rule the school. Mr. Stine should probably stick to writing for tweens. If he does attempt another adult novel in the future, perhaps it will be more interesting if he actually centers the story around adults instead of children. It might go over better than this one did.

I love R.L.Stine!! I think I’ve read everything he’s ever written! Lol! I grew up reading his books and now as an adult I still love his stories and can appreciate them even more.

Surprised & Intrigued

RL Stine has such amazing writing skill, it was very unexpected with plot twists. The gore scenes were incredible and exactly what I was looking for. The narrator was really creative and spot on with so many different voices. He really brought the story to life.

reader

the reader had a very unpleasant voice and his accents and interpretation of the characters were so bad it was hard to pay attention to the story. the story itself left some holes uncovered but overall a good story

Excellent

I figured out the secret of the boys and the love of their new adopted mom before the end of the book, but that is usually true for all the books unlisted to. Listen or read this book it is really good.

Needed Mr Slappy

Meh. It Needed Mr. Slappy. A fairly average book. Slow paced and predictable. The characters were pretty generic as well.
