Publisher's summary

Even when finding oneself engaged in interstellar war, good form must be observed. Our story is set thousands of years after the Terran Exodus, where two powerful, planet-dominating families - the elegant House Jakabitus and the less refined Hahn Empire - have reached a critical point in their generations-long war. Master Hennik, the Hahn ruler's only son, has been captured, and the disposition of his internment may represent a last and welcome chance for peace.

Enter Wollard, the impeccably distinguished and impossibly correct Master of Formalities for House Jakabitus. When he suggests that Master Hennik be taken in as a ward of the House, certain complications arise. Wollard believes utterly and devotedly in adhering to rules and good etiquette. But how does one inform the ruler of a planet that you are claiming his son as your own - and still create enough goodwill to deescalate an intergalactic war?

Confusing

What could Scott Meyer have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

I simply adore the Meyer's Wizard series, and really enjoyed the Authorities. I found this book to be way too clever for it's own good, to the point where it was flat out confusing. The whole story setup was just too odd. I really enjoy Meyer's wit, but there was a line that got crossed where things stopped being witty, and just became absurd for me. It's at the point where I'm doubting I'll even finish the book. Seriously, I stopped listening to this at some point, and listened to the Wizard series again.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No

VERY entertaining

This is fantastic writing and as usual a terrific performance by the narrator. I really enjoyed the Off To Be the Wizard series and I enjoyed this one even more. Meyer's writing has reached new heights and the plot, and world that he created here are even more sophisticated. But most importantly, it is a very very entertaining listen. If you're tired of books that make you feel dark and miserable, Scott Meyer's books are the cure for what ails you. They're smart, clever, and most importantly engaging and entertaining.

Loved this one!!!

I laughed through the whole thing 😅

I need more books like this to read. Please write more with Luke Daniels as the narrator.

I'm in love with this book

Know that it is 2,171 years before the terrain exodus. Today is the twenty second day of the eight month. We meet in the Audible review section on the Audible website. I am Violet reviewer of this audio book...

I saw a review say it was hard to finish the first chapter. I admit it didn't instantly catch me, but by the second chapter I was hooked.

I really hope there are more books in this series.

Not his best but still really good

Imaginative future of mankind. Fun and whimsical. However some of the storyline elements seemed pointless. Namely the first diplomatic visit with the "bodyguard" went nowhere.

Snarky and clever!

A good leisure read. I read/listened to this on a break from reading Meyer's Magic 2.0 series. Loved every second.

Hard to follow in the beginning, Solid ending

This was harder to get into than Scott Meyer’s other works like Magic 2.0 or The Authorities. But I enjoyed the ending and it had some good humorous parts.

It grew on me

P. G. Wodehouse in space. I started this audiobook and found it somewhat shallow at first. A lot of meh. Just couldn’t get into it, even with the renowned Luke Daniels narrating. But it grew on me and I found myself growing much more interested as it progressed, especially in the final third. The story gets 3 stars for the slow start, the final third is a 4 star rating.

Momentum Based Interest

By the time I was in the groove and finding the "funny" bits funny, the performance was half over. That doesn't mean this is a bad story, but just that the buy-in is MIGHTY steep.
