Lack of conflict and character development

Cute premise. Not enough of a conflict to make you want to cheer for the couple or maintain a real interest in the story. One character who was supposed to be confident and cocky lacked confidence, and the one who was intelligent, was so whiny it made him hard to listen to. It also seemed that he was younger than he was, which was off putting. There was an opportunity for deeper character development but it was not explored, which left the story flat. Also there was far too much detail and inner narrative in the romantic scenes in a way that was boring. I found myself fast forwarding through them.
