Publisher's summary

From Nora Roberts comes the #1 New York Times bestseller Shelter in Place (June 2018) - a powerful tale of heart, heroism...and propulsive suspense.

It was a typical evening at a mall outside Portland, Maine. Three teenage friends waited for the movie to start. A boy flirted with the girl selling sunglasses. Mothers and children shopped together, and the manager at the video game store tended to customers. Then the shooters arrived.

The chaos and carnage lasted only eight minutes before the killers were taken down. But for those who lived through it, the effects would last forever. In the years that followed, one would dedicate himself to a law enforcement career. Another would close herself off, trying to bury the memory of huddling in a ladies' room, helplessly clutching her cell phone - until she finally found a way to pour her emotions into her art.

But one person wasn't satisfied with the shockingly high death toll at the DownEast Mall. And as the survivors slowly heal, find shelter, and rebuild, they will discover that another conspirator is lying in wait - and this time, there might be nowhere safe to hide.

My 1st Nora Roberts book

I went into this read unsure of what to expect.. I had only knew Nora from my wife having read alot of her books. Not really into romance novels I was not expecting to make it far into the book but boy was I delightfully wrong. Great pacing minimal romance scenes added into a wonderful murder novel. Cant say ill be an avid Nora Roberts reader after this one but can confidently say i WILL read this book again.

Excellent Read!

I don't write reviews very often but when I do, you can believe it! Nora Roberts is one of my favorite authors to begin with, and she doesn't really write a bad story, but this storyline, detail, suspense, humor all hit the mark. I listened to this on my commute each day and my daily 20-minute walk for exercise. By the time I got to the end, I just kept walking past my 20-minutes so I could finish it! These characters (the good guys anyway) were so likable and believable I wish I could meet them and they made me laugh out loud. The bad ones made me shudder and curse them out loud.
Highly recommend this book but, spoiler alert, it will make you uneasy at times...

Got better and then..

I Felt it was a little slow at first, but then it picked up and became exciting. I felt a little let down at the end.

Masterful storytelling

Cried at the beginning, cried at the end. While it had echos of two other of her stories, it was still a heart wrenching fantastic story that made you love all of the characters and feel like you knew them well.

4.5 Stars for Shelter in Place

While this isn’t a literary masterpiece it was thoroughly entertaining and I enjoyed the character development... you know you’ve enjoyed a book when you’ll miss the characters.

Best Performance, excellent thriller!

When you see Nora Roberts name you think a romance novel. But this book is amazing! The performance by January LaVoy is fantastic. She is able to nail down the New England accent, distinguish characters and send a chill up your spine with the voice of Patricia.
There were parts in the book that kind of felt repetitive but then she would pick right back up with the suspense.
I have bought recommendations before and have been very disappointed but not this this book. Great book, story, suspense and especially the performance. Well done!

Great story!

Best Nora Robert's book I've ever read! It was a nice change from the typical cookie cutter romance.

Entertaining

The results of bullying, family jealousy, an island destination all add interest to the story.
