Publisher's summary

Be careful what you wish for....

There are very few things I know to be true. I’ve worked hard to stay alive while waitressing at Lunar Royale, a premiere casino in Boston serving explicitly supernatural clientele. I’ve taken these risks because I need money to escape Boston and start over in a new city. That money isn’t coming fast enough, and now this job might kill me before I can escape.

Tonight I plan on carefully maneuvering my way into the most important game of poker ever played at Lunar Royale. The stakes are high, and the players are Boston’s supernatural elite. But by the time I realize it’s not money they’re playing for, I’m stuck in the game. The real prize? A dragon’s egg. Dragons were supposed to be hunted to extinction during the Supernatural War, but before that, they were powerful conduits of magic. This egg, if real, is invaluable.

You may just get it….

All I wanted was to escape the city, and winning this dragon’s egg might be my ticket out...if I can survive the game to the end. I just have to ignore the way the dragon’s magic hums, calling to me from across the room.

As if this dragon has belonged to me from the start....

Vera’s journey begins in Spark of Lightning, an urban fantasy adventure full of heart and set in a Boston filled with faeries, vampires, witches, dragons, magic, and the cutest dragon hatchling in existence! Scroll up and grab your copy today!

Entertaining Start to a Series!

This is a new author to me and I'm glad I pick up this story! It's an entertaining story about a woman whose life gets turned sideways after she bluffs her way into a high stakes poker game thinking the prize is a lot of money. Enough money to get her out of Boston. However, the prize ends up being a dragon egg and that's where things turn sideways for poor Vera.
She's a resilient character. She takes things in stride, however sometimes I do wish she'd have demanded answers rather than vagaries and non-answers from some of the other characters. I liked her spunk and her willingness to jump into new situations.
The world building was great! With different weaves to represent the different worlds from fae to dragon to the human weave, it really presented a nice picture of the world after the meteor shower (and appearance of supernaturals).
I would have liked better characterization for the mean character. She is just mean and there's never really an answer and that got to be a little annoying after a while. I was hoping for more of an explanation.

I enjoyed the narrator. I thought she did a good job with all the different character voices. She's a new to me author and I'd definitely listen to another book narrated by her in the future! There were some different pronunciations than I'm used to, but it didn't upset the flow of the story at all. I listened at 1.15x speed.

Well written and read

This story was engaging from the start. Well paced and just kept getting better. Magic on Earth after an alien invasion. Vampires, werewolves, and fae. And then there are the dragons. What more can you ask for.

Good start

Spark of lightning was a pretty good start to a new urban fantasy series. I enjoy the story but it felt a bit unfinished. I am very curious to see what’s going to happen next. It definitely kept me very entertained and I enjoyed the way magic worked in this world. Very much worth the listen and I’m excited for the next book.

Great start

I think this was a great start to the series! I am definitely interested in book 2 and seeing where the storyline leads our characters. This is definitely a book that YA and adult listeners can get behind.

Interesting start to a new urban fantasy

This books grabs your attention from the beginning, we have Vera working as a waitress at the Lunar Royale casino, which caters exclusively to supernaturals, she has a plan to flee the city and begin a brand-new life by winning a poker game. What she ends up with is a dragons egg! Now we have is a girl on the run, going to a new realm, learning about her powers and destiny. While I think the pace of this books was a bit off but you can see Vera has the potential to be a strong character and I'm interested to see how she develops.
Narration: Shannon Condon was good but slow for my tastes, had to listen at 1.25

Loved it

I absolutely loved this story. It had me after chapter 1. It has a wide variety of characters, vampires, werewolves, and fairies just to name a few. The best one was the baby dragon Zezza. As I was reading, I could picture the baby dragon in my mind along with her different expressions. Cuteness overload. The story has a unique start I thought. Vera needs to leave Boston and get a fresh start. She works at a unique casino which serves strictly a supernatural clientele. She plans on worming her way into a high stakes poker game and winning. She manages to get in the game and her hope of a new start looks promising. Then she realizes what they are playing for. Not money at all, instead it's a dragon egg. Vera wins and her life takes a dangerous turn. Now she is on the run with an adorable baby dragon Vera will do anything to protect her dragon and the adventure they have will kepp you turning pages. Excellent story & I can't wait for book 2.
