Publisher's summary

USA Today best-selling and award-winning author Barbara Freethy writes wonderfully entertaining contemporary novels. Summer Secrets is the compelling story of three sisters and the burden of the terrible secret they share.

Eight years ago, the three teenaged McKenna sisters, Kate, Ashley, and Caroline, became famous by winning an arduous, around-the-world sailboat race. Driven hard by their ambitious father, the three young women faced months of intense emotional strain and physical hardship and persevered. But the cost of their tremendous victory didn't come cheap. Something happened to them out on the ocean during a monstrous storm, something they will never forget.

Summer Secrets blends moments of high adventure with intrigue and romance for an unforgettable listening experience. Narrator Christina Moore's reading perfectly highlights all the excitement, wonder, and danger of the open sea.

riveting

I am so pleased to have found another author to read. I almost did not get this book but decided to try it with the summer sale. The story was believable and well worth reading. The author does not leave
you hanging. Everything is explained and worked through. It is a great story of a typical family. You sill not stop listening until you have heard it all!! I am now purchasing the other two audible books by this auther and cannot wait to get started on them.

Good story but dragged

This was a good story, but about a fourth of it could have been deleted. It became rather tedious. I got tired of Kate being tortured by her loyalty to a father who certainly did not deserve it, by Ashley who really conquered her fear ridiculously easy, by an ending that tidied things up far too neatly, by the baby aspect that given how loyal this family was, how could they ever give up?!! I don’t know, it was pretty disappointing. Fairly well read, although the lisp added for the youngest daughter made her sound 12-something added by the performer- and the male voices, understandably, were off, especially Tyler. Still it kept my attention for a six hour drive through the desert. I did fast forward through the love scenes-too much like peeping into someone’s bedroom window.

Great story with intriguing secrets!

Any additional comments?

I truly enjoyed tis book from beginning to end. The narrator did good job with each character and as always Barbara Freethy did not dissappoint. She leaves the listener wanting to know what happens next. So thumbs up on this one!

Good Story

I have bought all three of Barbara Freethy's novels, and I have enjoyed all of them. I am now a permanent fan of hers. I love the stories of intrigue mixed with romance. She makes her characters come alive and really draws you into their situations.

On the down side, she seems to stick to a formula (whatever works). The typical storyline involves a man and a woman who are attracted to each other, but are separated by family loyalty. I also don't like the way she emphasizes how the women are always just under 30, as if finding love "just in time." I would love to see her take on a romance between thirty-somethings since typically, men and women with careers choose to marry later in life.

Otherwise, whichever book by Freethy you choose, I don't think you will be disappointed.

Boring!

I listened to a half hour of this and had to give up. This book just failed to grip me. Also, the narrator's voice sounds very 'old womanish' and was difficult to listen to. Especially when she narrated the men's voices. The men sound like goofy hicks.

predictable and all is right with the world

I downloaded this to try something different from my usual mysteries and biographies, and also I love the sea and sailing. I was very disappointed. I only finished it by playing it as background noise when I was working on my computer.

It started interesting enough with a "mystery" about what happened at sea and rapidly progressed to boring, not too graphic sex scenes with everyone falling in love with the perfect person and everything turning out perfect. Wish I could live in such a perfect world.
