much needed advice

I am a new teacher and I was listening to this book on my commute. It was interesting how after all my observations the experience teachers were giving me the same advice as in the book. I love though how the book gave stories and ways to use the advice. I have noticed a change in my classroom climate where we can still have positive happy experiences but maintain sanity.

Quite effective so far.

Each technique effects greater class control. This is a from-the-trenches guide (among countless such opuses) that actually works.

BRILLIANT!

I loved this book! I've been teaching for 14 years and still found so many helpful strategies and tips. Not only does Rob Pelvin give some great strategies, but as true teacher he explains them so well and gives the "Why it works." I even found this book to be motivational because I'm excited to see how the kids respond when I put these practices into action. Along with the book comes free resources for classroom use-- including a few magic tricks. I can't say enough good things about this book. If you're a teacher, listen to this. If you are a new teacher, this could be a career saving read for beginning teachers.

My favorite teaching book!

This is my 4th year teaching high school freshman math. My 2nd year I had an incredibly difficult group that reminded me that I was not in control. Half way through the year I found this book and it saved me! Obviously everything isn’t perfect now (partially due to my struggle with following through with the great ideas in this book), but now I have a large arsenal of things to help me stay in control and keep kids engaged. I buy this book for anybody I know that is going into teaching, that’s how much I like it! Unfortunately, the audio book does leave out a good amount of my favorite things/ideas from the book, but it is all provided through the website he mentions (many many times).

Valuable resources and lessons

Very helpful resources throughout the book. I appreciated the candor that you can't expect techniques to be fool proof and so the author gives advice for next steps when the primary approach is not a success. I felt reinforced as some practices that I had planned on implementing in the new school year where advocated here. The audio delivery was very helpful on numerous examples as voice inflection, timing, and tone all made a dramatic impact on what was being shared. Appreciated the examples that demonstrate a common approach vs a strong approach that will help in a classroom. Seeing the two side by side really reinforced why my old ways were failing, even though they flowed with conventional wisdom. I feel much better equipped to work with students this fall.

Fantastic resource!

My first exposure to Rob Pkevin was his book Classroom Management success in 7 days or less. I'd been desperate to find a way to learn how to work with some very difficult students in my classroom. Rob's advice has been so valuable to me. To find this recorded book has been also very helpful to me. I am able to listen multiple times to get helpful advice to connect with multiple students, and I know I will continue to re-listen to this as I continue to get difficult students in my class. Thank you for sharing this, Rob!

Review and refine your classroom management.

This is a wonderfully concise read for new teachers and an excellent brush up reminder or fine tuner for veterans when it comes to tricky discipline situations. I throughly enjoyed and recommend it.
