Publisher's summary

Number one New York Times best seller.

Experience the book that started the Quiet Movement and revolutionized how the world sees introverts - and how introverts see themselves - by offering validation, inclusion, and inspiration.

One of the best books of the year - People, O: The Oprah Magazine, Christian Science Monitor, Inc., Library Journal, Kirkus Reviews.

At least one-third of the people we know are introverts. They are the ones who prefer listening to speaking; who innovate and create but dislike self-promotion; who favor working on their own over working in teams. It is to introverts - Rosa Parks, Chopin, Dr. Seuss, Steve Wozniak - that we owe many of the great contributions to society.

In Quiet, Susan Cain argues that we dramatically undervalue introverts and shows how much we lose in doing so. She charts the rise of the Extrovert Ideal throughout the 20th century and explores how deeply it has come to permeate our culture. She also introduces us to successful introverts - from a witty, high-octane public speaker who recharges in solitude after his talks, to a record-breaking salesman who quietly taps into the power of questions. Passionately argued, impeccably researched, and filled with indelible stories of real people, Quiet has the power to permanently change how we see introverts and, equally important, how they see themselves.

O, The Oprah Magazine 10 Favorite Books of 2012

Christian Science Monitor Best Books of 2012

“Superbly researched, deeply insightful, and a fascinating read, Quiet is an indispensable resource for anyone who wants to understand the gifts of the introverted half of the population.” (Gretchen Rubin, author of The Happiness Project)

"Cain offers a wealth of useful advice for teachers and parents of introverts... Quiet should interest anyone who cares about how people think, work, and get along, or wonders why the guy in the next cubicle acts that way. It should be required reading for introverts (or their parents) who could use a boost to their self-esteem." (Fortune.com)

"An intriguing and potentially life-altering examination of the human psyche that is sure to benefit both introverts and extroverts alike." (Kirkus, starred review)

THIS BOOK IS FOR TEENS

Susan Cain remains one of the single best authorities on introverts, but the publisher's description omits a critical piece of information: this book is written for teenagers. If you're one of those extroverted parents who doesn't get why their quiet kid is the way they are, you should read it too. For everyone else, pick up Susan's first book, Quiet, which has a lot more in it for grownups.

Thank you! Now I get it!

Bought book to help my quiet 7 year old and realized this book will help me too. I grew up hearing "speak louder" "is she mute?". As I got older I pretended to be an extrovert to feel like I was "better" and I was trying to make my quiet boy more extrovert so he wouldn't struggle like I did, now I realize there is nothing"wrong " with us.

Self Help Book for Shy Teens

Any additional comments?

As an adult, I got little out of this book. Seems beneficial for the shy teenager trying to make friends. Just seemed to be example after example of "when this shy person tried X, they were able to accomplish Y".

I realized about half way through the book I was only listening to it for the sake of completing it - about 80% of the way I was unable to continue listening. It's the same message reiterated 20+ times.

It worked for me and will work for my daughter

I'm one of those very introverted who grew up in a big, festive and noisy family where extroversion was rewarded. It was not fun.
Now, my daughter is even more introverted than me.
This marvelous book helped me understand that there was nothing wrong with me, and will help my daughter realize how great is the way she is and how much potential she has.

Oops

Just love Susan Cain and bought this for myself when I am not part of the target audience. I think it would be helpful to any introvert.

Mind blowing

I have never understood why my wife and my oldest son and my youngest girl are so quiet. I have been struggling to come close to them and understand them, and have shed many tears in the process. In this book I have learned that I’m more of an extrovert and have qualities of an introvert which this book and this wonderful author have explained as an ambivert, wow who knew. But there more so much more and I highly suggest taking the time to listen and grow because if anything you’ll truly understand what it is to be quiet.

Desperately needed for introverts and extroverts.

I read Cain’s book for adults and loved it. This is even better. I understand myself and those I love even better. With a family full of both “cats” and “puppies” this gave me some truly meaningful tools. As a child, parent, or teacher, whether you are an introvert or extrovert, this will help you to see the people around you as they need to be seen.

Read the fine print!

DO NOT BUY FOR ADULTS- I've wasted 2 days walks listening to this book wondering why it's so juvenile. Only when I went back, did a screen capture and enlarged the fine print so I could read it did I realize it says, "A guide for KIDS and TEENS from the bestselling author of QUIET". I've been waiting to get to the meat of it but there is no meat, it's a kids book and I've wasted an Audible Credit on it. This should be spelled out but is NOT on the Audible page, it simply says "Quiet Power" The Secret Strengths of Introverts. Nothing about it not being the actual adult version. Very disappointing and maybe Susan Cain has something to say too bad Amazon and Audible sold me this instead.
