Publisher's summary

"The perfect summer read" (Booklist) from New York Times best-selling author Elin Hilderbrand: An intense tale of love and loyalty set against the backdrop of endless summer island life.

With rumors of infidelity straining Greg and Tess MacAvoy's marriage, the couple head out on their sailboat one early summer day to celebrate their wedding anniversary, hoping the roughest waters are behind them. But in an accident off Nantucket, they mysteriously drown, leaving behind two small children as well as three couples who have long been their closest friends. Tragedy brings to the surface long-simmering conflicts and emotions, and the MacAvoys' six grieving friends find themselves unprepared for the revelation of secret upon secret as they struggle to answer the question: What happened to Greg and Tess?

The Castaways probes the boundaries of friendship and forgiveness as it tells a page-turning story of passion, betrayal, and suspense, filled with the perfect details of summer island life that have made Elin Hilderbrand's novels beloved best sellers.

Loved It!

A great story about great friends and the many different shapes of friendships/bonds. A feel good read worth the time. With so many dark secrets, the author does well in unfolding them a little at a time. Every ball that was thrown into the air is acknowledged at some point later allowing the storyline to layer nicely. I appreciated the narration and hearing the story in each character's perspective. Worth listening to!

Very Good

I actually purchased it over a year ago but somehow never started it.
In the very beginning since it was based on 6 different people, it was hard to follow but very quickly I was able to. Very good character structure and a very interesting story.

loved this book

this book is refreshing to listen to. The narrator was great. I was just confused about the music playing every now and then but other than that it was excellent.

Not my favorite Hilderbrand Novel

Most of Elin Hilderbrand's novels keep my attention and make it so I don't want to quit listening. This book was not the same. I struggled through parts of it just waiting for the next chapter so a new character would take over and hopefully liven it up a bit. the story was just ok. Pet Peeve was the music in between the chapters. It was so long and served no purpose.

Reader ruins the story.

The reader here is so perky and not smooth at all. She pauses like she’s lost her place and trying to find it. I couldn’t concentrate on the plot because of her irritating mannerisms.

Just ok.

I have really enjoyed her previous box, but this one was just OK. It seemed to take an awfully long time to get to the end of the book and it was already figured out throughout the middle.

So many stories

Sometimes hard to keep things straight as there were so many relationships upon relationships. Many surprises to keep the reader engaged.

Terrible narration

The narrator mispronounced so many basic yet important terms. The musical interludes were awful. READ this one - do not waste your money on listening to it!

Don't cast away this one

Though initially I had a hard time sorting out who was married to whom, I really enjoyed this book. Well written, good story line, good narration. I was concerned that (like many a good book) the ending would be disappointing, but I'm happy to say that the author finished as strong as she started. A good listen.

Loved it!

Wasn't sure what to expect. ..I loved that Tess and Addison fell in love and had a brief affair.
