Publisher's summary

This heartbreaking story - perfect for fans of If I Stay and Five Feet Apart - follows a girl swept up in the magic of her first love, until it all comes to a tragic end that might lead her into the afterlife itself. Soon to be a motion picture.

After bouncing around in foster homes for most of her childhood, 17-year-old Tessa Jacobs doesn’t believe she deserves love - not from her adoptive parents, and certainly not from anyone at school.

But everything changes when she has a chance encounter with Skylar, a senior from a neighboring town who’s a true romantic. Their budding relationship quickly leads to the kind of passion you only see in the movies. As her heart begins to open, Tessa starts to believe she might be deserving of love after all.

When tragedy strikes, Tessa wakes up alone in a hospital room with no memory of how she got there. And then she learns the horrifying news: Skylar is dead. As Tessa searches for answers, Skylar’s spirit reaches out to her from the other side. Desperate to see him one last time, Tessa must race against the clock to uncover the shocking truth of their relationship - a truth that might just lead to the afterlife itself.

Critic reviews

“A radiant, swoon-worthy ghost story, combined with an empowering story of a young woman finding her creative voice. I absolutely loved this book." (Kirsten “Kiwi” Smith, author of Trinkets and screenwriter of 10 Things I Hate About You and Legally Blonde)

“An original take on the personal nature of grief and a strong choice where YA romances are popular.” (SLJ)

A magical unique love story

This is a story of 2 contrasting characters, one abandoned and unloved in early life, and the other given the privileges of a wealthy family and unconditional love. How these 2 characters are drawn together, their love and disappointments, and struggle to be together weaves this story into a spellbinding dialogue that leaves you in great anticipation to see what happens next! I was so anxious to see how Marc Klein handled the ending, and melted it into the perfect unsuspected closure.
The narrator, Christie Moreau greatly enhances the drama of the story with her excellent representation of the characters. Her pauses, emphasis on certain words, the excitement, anger, happiness, fear, and love in her voice brought this story and all the characters to real life.
I will definitely recommend this book.

Boring

I really wanted to love this. I was expecting a heart wrenching love story that would stick with me for days, but not even close. I really disliked the narrators voice, which I know is a personal opinion. The story seemed really juvenile, (I’m 35) so maybe I would have liked it more if I was a teenager or in my early twenties. Their love story wasn’t fully developed in my opinion, so I didn’t feel a huge connection to them as a couple. I’m a little disappointed I wasted an audible credit.
