Excellent bridge book!

The book filled in a few gaps for me that before were only events that had been mentioned but without much elaboration. The author drops little golden nuggets throughout the drizdt series and it was nice for some of those events to be written and compiled.

Entertaining short stories

The stories are fantastic, entertaining and well-written overall, though the details in some contradict those in others. However, the author notes in the beginning that they were written over 25 years so its understandable that they evolved and changed. Most stories are action and have at least one fight, but a few are more introspective. My favorites are the ones narrated by Sean Astin and Will Wheaton, both about dragons, and Guenhwyvar narrated by Tom Felton. Least favorites are probably the one narrated by Ice-T and David Duchovny.

exceptional stories.... questionable reading skil

I read The Crystal Shard when it first came out, being a big fan of Forgotten Realms. This collection of short stories was such a great visit with characters I've loved my whole adult life. There is not a weak tale in the bunch, and I found the sentiments far more touching than I would have imagined.

when I saw that there was an "all star" cast reading the book I was really excited, and everyone in the book does a great job... except for Ice T. I could barely follow his short story due to his poor reading skills. I couldn't count the times he mispronounced the word "sword". If your going to read a fantasy novel, you should familiarize yourself with a few of these simple terms.

All in all a great read. I can't wait to listen to more stories of Drizzt!

Mostly great... but

When a narrator is attempting an accent... she probably should not vocalize a distortion of the WRITTEN word when the story never indicates other than a vocal word. Most people with accents fail to restate what they heard in a manner different than stating what is written poorly. Yet, several narrators spoke a distortion of the written word not the character claimed solely vocalized word.

Excellent

Great stories and excellent readers.
Ice T did say saword which was disconcerting but his reading was great. He tells a story like a man of his type would tell a story. I appreciated his candor.

all great save one.

I love this collection of shots and the world they are built in.... but I had to completely skip the story read by Ice T.... I have nothing against the man, he is a great actor, singer and general human being... I must say tho... narration is not his strong suit.

Pronunciation

Nice collection of short stories. No continuing narrative. Don't really leave reviews but only thing that stuck with me after all the stories was Ice Tea's pronunciation of sword. he accentuated the 'W' in the word.
To attempt to write this sound down it was 'se-ward', not 'sord' as one would expect. Took me out of the story.
other than that it was nice to hear different voices for each story.

What an interesting collection of narrators

At the beginning of the book the author talks about their surprise so many turned out to read for this book and so many were super stars. The author was honored by all the celebrities who came out. I have to say here Ice-T as the voice of Drizzt was interesting. I enjoyed each story as they were read and have to admit this is the first time I've hear Al Yankovic read any book. I would like to hear him do more. The other person who stuck out was Wil Wheaton and honestly I would like to hear him do more books. The stories are great and one of them I had heard before and it was nice to hear it in a different voice. Plus all the stories follow the established storyline which is great. I would personally like to see more like this in the future.
