Publisher's summary

Twelve-year-old Will Wilder is back to protect the town of Perilous Falls from another ancient evil - the fearsome demon Amon.

When the storied Staff of Moses - responsible for summoning the plagues of ancient Egypt - vanishes from the museum in Perilous Falls, Will Wilder is suspect number one. Desperate to prove his innocence and stop the thief from unleashing terrors upon the town of Perilous Falls, Will must use his supernatural gift to locate the beast - but it's nowhere to be found.

As the river runs with blood, sharp-toothed frogs surround his home, and clouds of swarming gnats choke the streets, Will must rely on his supernatural ability, everything he learned from his training, and help from his friends, siblings, and great-aunt Lucille to find the missing staff and unmask the hidden evil before time runs out for all of them.

Great story for kids 10+. Excellently voiced.

Some scary moments that may frighten younger kids but still a well told story. Kids will also learn some interesting Egypian mythology and Roman Catholic hagiography.

Best Will Wilder book yet!

This book had me on the edge of my seat from the get go! Have to admit I binged this series in 2 days and now I have to wait for book 4😉 I love the storyline, characters and adventure of these books and Raymond’s narration is the frosting on the cake, He made the characters come alive. Finally a adventure series that kids and adults can love and share. As a former reading teacher and present day homeschooler I recommend these book highly they are filled with moral lessons without being preachy, and they are a fun and compelling read! Please hurry with book 4 Raymond patience is a virtue I struggle with🥰

Loved it - and this is an adult speaking!

My children are now adults but I still read young adult books because the joy of adventure is not typically cluttered with an adult’s personal drama or agenda.

Me. Arroyo does an amazing job with his vocalizations. A female character sounds feminine which is a rare find in audiobooks. I do not know if he has ever narrated other books but you can bet I’ll be searching on his name. Scott Brick may soon have competition as to my favorite voice actor. I would love to see how Mr. Arroyo would handle more mature novels.

As for this series, the first book draws you into the Wilder world but the second book seals the deal and makes the reader want to commit to future books in the series. The use of the biblical plagues was ingenious. The combination of supernatural and biblical record was superb.

I really enjoy the interplay that Will has both with his friends, the Brethren and his family. The things I dislike in the book are minimal such as the travel through sarcophagi concept which is a little over the top (as an adult yes - children not do much). I also think even younger readers will be annoyed by Will’s father’s continued disbelief. These are minor annoyances which do not take away from this fine storytelling.

J.K. Rowling’s, Rick Reardon and Raymond Arroyo - you cant go wrong choosing any of their tales. Now to end this review so I can purchase and listen to Book #3 in this series!
