Publisher's summary

The Princess Will Save You is a YA fantasy adventure inspired by The Princess Bride, in which a princess must rescue her stable boy true love, from the acclaimed author of Sea Witch, Sarah Henning.

When a princess' commoner true love is kidnapped to coerce her into a political marriage, she doesn't give in - she goes to rescue him.

When her warrior father, King Sendoa, mysteriously dies, Princess Amarande of Ardenia is given what would hardly be considered a choice: Marry a stranger at 16 or lose control of her family's crown.

But Amarande was raised to be a warrior - not a sacrifice.

In an attempt to force her choice, a neighboring kingdom kidnaps her true love, stable boy Luca. With her kingdom on the brink of civil war and no one to trust, she'll need all her skill to save him, her future, and her kingdom.

Buttercup on Steroids!

Well-crafted and well written hero’s journey but this time the hero is a woman. This book is for all of us who see ourselves as warriors and reject the trope that our only role is the passive damsel waiting to be rescued by prince charming. A fast paced and satisfying listen for women of ALL ages with “I didn’t see that coming” turn of events in every chapter and an ending that leaves you wanting more! Excellent narrator brings the story to life. Down with the patriarchy-can’t wait for the sequel!!!

Good story inspired by The Princess Bride

This is an inspired retelling version of The Princess Bride, yes inspired means it has some things but not expect it to be like it. The worldbuilding seemed to be good but felt a bit flat, would've wanted to find more about this world. The characters are interesting but expected more of them. I got to read this as I got the second book to review, so off to that one.

So much potential

This story has a fun plot and fun characters, but I almost didn't finish it, because the writing wasn't tight. Any good writing instructor will impart the wisdom to show not tell. This author feels the need to tell you. Tell you the character is thinking or feeling a way that is obvious with out them telling you. Or worse, telling you how awesome a character is a they do something stupid. There are several times when sentances should have been replaced by a single adjective in an adjacent sentence. All this telling drags the plot down.
Despite these problems, the characters are intriguing and enough world building is in place to make the setting enjoyable. While the plot draws liberally from The Princess Bride, it is its own story and the references are kind of fun. There is some well done foreshadowing and a couple twists. The narration was well done given the book did have to be read as written
I find it frustrating that the book could have been so much better, but isn't.

So Very Good

I will preface this by saying I'm a 21yo man, so I thought I wasn't in the target demographic for this book. I was very wrong, I picked it up to give it a try because Fantasy is my favorite genre but I thought it was probably going to be a slightly cringey YA book. I was very very wrong.

I loved the book, it was very well written and had many new developments that left me always unsure of who was behind what. The romance was also well written, I wanted them together.

I'll not waste any more of your time, no matter who you are you will enjoy this book.

And the sequel comes to audible the day after my birthday so I'm very much looking forward to that :) (sorry backlog)

Fun reimagining of the Princesses Bride

Loved this story and loose retelling of the Princesses Bride. Plus the narrator was fabulous and great to listen to. 10/10, would recommend!

Couldn’t finish it

I wanted to love this book! I love The Princess Bride and thought the premise of the Princess being the heroine. It started well, but the development was so slow I kept losing focus and had to go back and listen again. It is not the narrator- she’s lovely to listen to. But I just didn’t care what happened. It also lacked the humor and quirkiness that made me love the original.
If you want a true comparison of the Princess as heroine with the wit and quirkiness, try Tress of the Emerald Isle by Brandon Sanderson. That one is *muah* chef’s kiss.

it was good. I enjoyed the characters and that the princess is such a strong individual. I think there were some unexpected turns to the story.

An Amazing Journey

It's been a long time since I had a book hook me in so thoroughly. Sharp writing and an even sharper protagonist. I could hardly put it down! An absolute smash hit, 10/10

solid 4 stars

while it has notes of the princess bride as advertised i wouldn't call this much of a retelling. lacking some of the memorable umph and comedy the book had. on its own it is a simple adventure story, easy to get through. i found it had odd pov choices which I think took away from some of the plots mystery but not enough for me to be too offput.
