Publisher's summary

They say the best way to get over someone is to get under someone else. They say the best way to stay sober is to love yourself.

I'm great at making bad decisions. Addict? Check. Poor impulse control? Check. Obsessed with the guy I'm sponsoring? Check. Check. Check.

There's no one worse for me to want in my bed than Jake Tully. He's hot and grumpy and literally a terrible idea. Terrible. Worse, no one has ever made me feel the way he does—valued. But here I am, thinking about him again. Falling for my sponsor is not my worst idea yet, but it's damn close.

Felix Fields is everything good. He's thoughtful and kind. I can't help but think about every bad thing we could do between these sheets. But we can't be together. I'm not willing to risk my recovery for anyone—even if he might be perfect for me.

Finding a love like this is nothing short of a tragedy.

From New York Times bestselling author J. Daniels comes an all-new, sexy standalone romance. This book ends in a Happily Ever After, but getting there isn't easy.

All the feels

By far the best audiobook I’ve listened to this year (and I’ve listened to a lot). The story of Jake and Felix ripped my heart out over and over all while laughing and falling in love with them.

Unforgettable!!!

I never thought I’d laugh so much while listening to a novel about the tragedy of addiction, but believe it or not, it’s true! Fantastic, absolutely beautiful!!!
PS: I ❤️ Iggy Toma!

AMAZING

Do you need a palate cleanser but don’t want to go full rom-com? Do you want to smile the entire time you’re reading with frequent laugh-out-loud moments but also have angst that makes you feel all the feelings?? Well, this is the book for you!!! MM with HEAVY triggers for addiction and drug abuse. This book sounds like it would be really depressing and sad, but most of this book is lighthearted fun.

The book opens with Jake who receives a text from his girlfriend that says she wants to break up. He finds out that she has been cheating on him and he spirals out of control. He is an addict and had been clean for 7 years. He finds some pills that his roommate had hidden and he takes them all. He ends up going to live with his brother. In his new town, he goes to an AA meeting and meets Felix. They go out for donuts and Felix becomes his AA sponsor.

Felix exudes total golden retriever energy with frequent bouts of insecurity, self doubt and deprecation, and so much love to give. He falls HARD and FAST and his inner/outer monologues gave me LIFE. Felix is 1 year sober at the time of becoming Jake's sponsor.

I can't even describe how funny this book is. I laughed out loud SO MANY TIMES. And when I wasn't laughing, I was smiling so hard my face started to hurt. These boys own my heart right now.

Essentially, this book is about recovering from addiction and accepting that it is not something they will ever "beat" but rather something they have to fight every single day.......together. It is technically frowned upon to enter a romantic relationship so soon after relapsing as well as being entangled with your sponsor, so they fight their attraction for a while but it is inevitable. And its beautiful and HOT and just everything I’ve needed lately.

"You make me feel better than any drug I've ever taken" <3<3<3<3<3

March 2024: Audio Review!!! I cannot contain my excitement for this audiobook release. I have wanted to do a reread of this book since I first read it but I lack the time for eyeball reading so I rely on audiobooks for rereads. I was nervous about the narrators because whoever chosen would need to be peppy with golden retriever energy without being annoying. I think the choices were PERFECT! I don't know which narrator did which voice but both were perfect. Jake had a deep serious narration (which is his personality in the book) and Felix' narration was ADHD hopped up on caffeine and sugar (which is his personality in the book). I immediately want to start the audio over again and listen. I never want to let these boys go. I am sure I will grab this again very soon for a serotonin boost.

the narrators made a great story even better

listening to the audiobook make it all feel even more intense than when I read it the first time, in a great way

Iggy Toma is one of my favorite narrators so I knew he'd be great as Felix, this was my first time listening to Tristan Josiah but damn! this guy was a perfect fit for Jake

this is now my favorite performance by Iggy, the way he got to be the more hyper character this time was so fun to experience and Tristan was amazing too, even when he had to do Felix's lines the voice he used for him really worked perfectly

Ugh. I love them so much.

Seriously. Felix and Jake own me. This book hurts. It’s also funny. It’s tragic and heartfelt and rude and amazing and I wish I could read it for the first time again. I will be relistening to this multiple times.

Wow just wow

I literally have tears running down my face as I write this. This book is so beautifully written, I was roped in from the first chapter and couldn’t stop. Felix’s inner monologue was hilarious and so charming. And you could feel the pain Jake was experiencing. The narrators truly brought it to life. I laughed… the almost last chapter with the letter nearly gave me a heart attack, and then I cried.

One thing that bothered me was the sexual chemistry and spicy scenes were kind of an after thought? The emotional connection was definitely there with the sole mate vibe, but I didn’t feel the sexual attraction between the characters. And the first spicy scene in the shower didn’t make any sense logistically.

That aside this is easily one of the best books I’ve listened to. I wasn’t sure if it would live up to the hype it has online, but it def did. I’m def going to be in a reading slump after this one. I HIGHLY recommend this book but check the TW because there is some heavy heavy stuff.
