Publisher's summary

This book is a stimulating and entirely plausible insight into how Hitler and his generals might have defeated the Allies, and a convincing sideways look at the Third Reich's bid at world domination in World War II. What would have happened if, for example, the Germans captured the whole of the BEF at Dunkirk? Or if the RAF had been defeated in the Battle of Britain? What if the U-Boats had strangled Britain with an impregnable blockade, if Rommel had been triumphant in North Africa, or the Germans had beaten the Red Army at Kursk? The authors, writing as if these and other world-changing events had really happened, project realistic scenarios based on the true capabilities and circumstances of the opposing forces. Third Reich Victorious is a spirited and terrifying alternate history, and a telling insight into the dramatic possibilities of World War II.

Extensively researched and highly detailed

This was a pretty good book for those interested in alternate histories of WWII. There was one or two that I felt were pretty far fetched, but the authors obviously did a lot of research and most of the ideas are well founded.

The narration was a bit dry but did the job.

A fresh look at WW2 - false but makes one wonder.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

First the negative stuff. The narrator did nothing to improve the story. Almost monotone at times, specially when he was telling of countless divisions, regiments, men and such in different armies. I sometimes got totally lost in it. That is of course not entirely the narrator's fault as the stories are sometimes kind a like it. Having said that, I felt as I was listening to flat alternative history book but not a fiction. By adding personal conversations and personal experiences it would have been so much more interesting and thrilling. And if the narrator is good that brings extra spice to it. Well, when you have figured out the strategic movements of the 6th Soviet army and the 6th German army for instance, demolition of various Polish towns and so on, one get carried away in the story. All the mistakes that were made in real WW2 are suddenly turned around and you feel strangely satisfied not even being a Nazi sympathizer. I have often wandered, why did they do this or that and here is everything changed for the better ... or not?

Would you be willing to try another one of David Baker’s performances?

I'm not quite sure.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Definitely yes!

informed, interesting alternate history

this is a collection of alternate WWII outcomes from very well informed authors. the best stories of the collection dwell on how close the contest was; and, the differering ideologies within and between key figures in the contest.
My favorite stories feature either Hitler defeferred to another career in the Navy and Rommel's successful use of echelon formations strategy to win an Eastern campaign.

Reading without the usual bias of the combate efficiency and individual bravery of the Wehrmacht soldiers.

I very much enjoyed reliving the brilliantly executed tactical withdrawal and redeployment of German forces thus opening the arteries of the communist battlefield advances.

Good tales!

It is very simulating to follow the parts that are the known facts, and then see where each author steered some part of the story off that track into some alternative paths (with some more plausible than others). Obviously these authors have a great grasp of the historical facts. Somehow, each alternate version made me more vividly understand what the real players faced, thought, and felt, and the paths they chose. It stirs the imagination to project out further, and imagine what the world might be like, all these decades later.

Some of it is really interesting

Some of the stories are very plausible, and exciting, even terrifying! The narration can be dull at times.

Mostly great stories

This a good story collection. It had many what ifs that are really interested and well written. They are 2 stinkers that were very dull though. If you want a great WW2 what if book this is it.

Not bad but not great

I thought the concepts they talked about were interesting but it reads like a book report more than a flowing story. I do appreciate their reasoning behind decisions but I feel they could have done deeper into the possibilities instead of single alterations. overall a good listen.

Educational and interesting, but not for story.

Read once, listened to it twice.

The scenarios are told and explain thoroughly, in some instance to a bone-dry degree. But the many details and little known facts you learn make it incredibly interesting to listen to.
