Publisher's summary

From Wall Street Journal bestselling author Melinda Leigh comes the first thrilling novella in the Rogue Justice series.

When Detective Seth Harding responds to shots being fired, he faces a familiar sight: a double homicide. However, he is shocked to find a young boy chained in the basement. The terrified child refuses to speak, but Seth knows he is the key to something sinister.

Reluctantly, Seth calls the only social worker he trusts with the traumatized boy - his wife. Carly is recovering from her own trauma suffered on the job, but she can't turn away from this case, not from another child in trouble. With torrential rain bearing down, threatening to isolate their little town in a killer flood, Seth and Carly know the best way to keep the boy safe from danger is to take him back to their farm.

But danger is as relentless as the storm. And it's following them all the way home.

Just another day in Solitude

This novella keeps you guessing from the start. Lots of drama and a wee but of romance. Recommend this series.

Awful Narration Ruined Story

This story was an average crime-mystery novel. But the narration was so stilted I really struggled to listen all of the way to the end. I can't emphasize the poor quality of this narration enough. I won't listen to anymore books by this author.

Hard to enjoy

The story itself is not bad, but the reader was very mechanical. At times it sounded almost like a robotic reading. The result being it was very difficult to enjoy this book.

Good story, Dialogue Not So Much

I love a good short story As the author must understand the rules and pros for writing one. This was a good one and a steal at $2. Unfortunately, some reviewer’s do not understand Or don’t remember what a short stories format should be hence some negative reviews. I do not know if this couple is a series or not but if it is it’s a good one. I gave this one a try because I wanted to see if the narrator got better and she did in fact, the second time l listened to this book. This authors dialogue needs improvement at times it can get too mushy or cheesy not sure if it’s just word selection because the sentiments are good. I did try her Bree series and unfortunately one of my favorite narrators just didn’t bring the series home.
Were my comments of help?

LOVED IT!

This was short but oh so good The story flowed along nicely. The author didn't bog it down with unnecessary information & descriptions. There was humor & drama. It was short but sweet.

prepare to not put it down.

I was hooked mmediately. The story starts with a surge of electricity and keeps it coming. Anyone from a small town will recognize how well the author painted the portrait of a small town and the people who call it home.

Yowsers! What a read!

As always Melinda Leigh delivered one heck of an action packed story. There were moments where I was like, what is she doing!? Lol

I love Seth and Carly. I think they’re my favorites out of this group. Well, back up, Patsy is my favorite, they’re my favorite couple.

When murder and mayhem show up both Seth and Carly are tossed into the middle. Carly’s brother, Bruce, a newly appointed deputy is in the thick of it as well. Two dead bodies, a boy chained up in the basement and a storm make the nights sleepless and a little overwhelming. The hunt is on for the person, or persons responsible for the murders and the boys treatment.

When that trouble follows Seth and Carly home, things take a turn for the worse. But somehow, as they always do, they manage to kick butt.... too bad the troubles not over.

Twisted Truth

Although I knew this was a Novella, I was so disappointed when it finished. Good story, kept you awake. Narration really good. Now time for a full story.
