Publisher's summary

Kristin Newman spent her 20s and 30s dealing with the stresses of her high-pressure job as a television comedy writer, and the anxieties of watching most of her friends get married and start families while she wrestled with her own fear of both. Not ready to settle down and yet loathe to become a sad-sack single girl, Kristin instead started traveling the world, often alone, for a few months each year, falling madly in love with attractive locals who provided moments of the love she wanted without the cost of the freedom she needed. She introduces listeners to the Israeli bartenders, Argentinian priests, Finnish poker players, and sexy Bedouins who helped her transform into "Kristin-Adjacent" on the road - a quieter, less judgmental, and, yes, sluttier version of herself at home. Ultimately, Kristin's adventures led her to a better understanding of what she was actually running away from at home and why every life hurdle seemed to put her on a transatlantic flight to the unknown. Equal parts laugh-out-loud storytelling; thoughtful, candid reflection; and wanderlust-inspiring travel tales, What I Was Doing While You Were Breeding is a compelling and hilarious debut that will have listeners scrambling to renew their passports.

Fun to Listen

Glad I got this in audio book version. It's much more entertaining to listen to than to read in my opinion. Fun stories and great narration!

Perfect read if you’re an adventurous free spirit

I don’t normally review books but this came across my path at the perfect time. It’s an epic journey with an honest and open woman through her journey to partnership. Absolutely recommend 💖

GREAT narrator - pretty humorous story - but...

A great married or in a really funny story – but about halfway through I lost interest as more and more and more the book became who she was sleeping with and how often she was sleeping with new people. I mean, it’s cool that a girl is that open about it, it certainly needs to be equal and we got a ways to go in most cases, but honestly I wouldn’t like a book either where a guy talked about all the people he slept with. But really fun too! I’m torn...

A fun listen

When I started this book, I initially had problems getting into it: it seemed so outside my comfort zone : but the further I got the more Kristin sounded like a friend. This book is funny, smart, relatable, and so much fun to listen to. A guy even rolled down his window to ask what was so funny while I was listening to it in the car. It's that funny. A great listen overall.

It’s like a prequel to Eat pray love!

Reminds you of eat pray love, in the best ways! This is like the before of that book, of being single and traveling in your 20-30s while everyone else’s is settling down, she’s having adventures. And I love it

Highly recommend!

Kristin Newman narrated her entertaining and energizing story of travel and love experiences perfectly. It's spicy with destinations and the people involved. It's a very relatable memoir in the sense at least one of her characters are going to remind you of someone you've known.

I also found it interesting that she's a comedy writer. It's nice to hear a story of a woman in such a non traditional field and see into the person behind the creation of scenes in shows you've watched. Loved it all around. Will definitely be listening to this audio book more than once!
