Publisher's summary

Wren is the story of two women who shared a tragedy in their youth that impacted each of their lives in far-reaching and rather different ways. While Bernadette dealt head-on with the trauma and loss of her youth and commenced to live life fully, Wren shrank from life, choosing a path of distraction and repression. When the women are brought together by Wren's decision to leave her husband of 40-plus years (though she doesn't acknowledge at the time what she's chosen), the past crashes into the present, with discoveries about her parents and the arrival of children whose lives mysteriously intersect her own. The lessons Wren must learn about attachment and honest emotion involve a choice between living and not living the life she's been granted as she watches life slip from the hands of her old friend.

Vivid, moving, soul-quenching.

It is not often that I come across a story that transports me into a time and place so thoroughly that characters and locations feel like people and places I know and love. When I found myself pondering main character Wren's life, thoughts, and choices, all through the day, whether listening to the book or not, I realized this book was a treasure. It changed me along with the characters as they grew and understood themselves. Tricia's writing is like a fresh, clean, clear, breeze, much akin to the Nehalem Bay winds she describes in the book. She writes with her whole self: senses, mind, and soul, and her full authorship comes through beautifully. Christina's voice is a wonderful match in clarity, expression, and pace. I would highly recommend this book to readers who wish to engage in a fresh, moving, delightful venture into an unforgettable place, and in appealing characters who become part of the reader's own journey toward self-expression and love.

A wonderful story for head and heart

I really enjoyed listening to this book in my car. Christina Pfister's calm and soulful voice is a perfect pairing for this story about two strong and independent women and their connection to each other over several decades. I liked how it switched back and forth between two different time periods and how it transported me to Oregon. Definitely entertaining and wonderful to listen to! Highly recommend!

Loved these characters and this story!

Unfolding in the Pacific Northwest, Wren weaves together the lives of two women: Wren and an older friend Bernadette. As the novel begins, Wren has lived a life of quiet desperation. Entering middle age, she reconnects with Bernadette. The older woman had faced tragedy in earlier life, but had embraced life on her own terms. There’s a vibrancy and couarage about her that transforms Wren and leads to her to take a radical new course in life. Tricia Gates Brown writes with grace and beauty, her characters are well-developed, and she tells an engaging story. Get this audio book, but set aside time. You won’t put it down.

An absolute joy to listen to!

As an audiobook lover I tend to be very picky in what I listen to, not only does the story have to suck me in, but the voice of the reader must be pleasing to my ear as well. Wren is the perfect combination of both! Christina's performance of Wren is so incredibly enjoyable. The cadence and lyrical nature of her voice would make me listen even if the story line wasn't all there! (Don't worry, the story is great as well) Truly, though, if you are looking for a well written and fantastically delivered book, look no further than Wren!

Wren and Bernadette win my heart

What a wonderful story. I have been known to cancel all appointments and read a book cover to cover over a couple of days (and nights). Wren is one of those books. A story of strong women carving out a history on the Oregon Coast. I fell in love with my people, my ancestors, and my place all over again.

Should be movie!

Wren should be made into a movie! It is a wonderful and deep story of life mainly set on the splendid world-class coast of Oregon. The language is rich and the descriptions vivid. I couldn’t stop listening until the last sentence and then I wished there was more. What a find!
