Publisher's summary
This is Book #1 of The Crosse Harbor Time Travel Trilogy
Historian Emilie Crosse dreamed of a love that would last forever. Who knew she'd have to sail across two centuries to find it?
When her ex-husband Zane Grey Rutledge showed up at her door with a Revolutionary War uniform that was part of his grandmother's estate, neither one suspected that their lives were about to change in ways they couldn't possibly imagine.
Swept back in time to 1776 where a nation is struggling to be born, Emilie finds herself torn between two men: Zane, her ex who still holds the key to her heart, and Andrew McVie, the Patriot hero of her long-ago dreams . . . .

Story
The ultimate cure that could heal any disease? Crazy. That's exactly what research scientist Marian Creighton has always believed about her father's quest, even if it does stem from a desire to save her sister Ellen from the genetic disease that stole their mother from them. But when her father falls into a coma after drinking a vial of holy water believed to contain traces of residue from the Tree of Life, Marian must question all of her assumptions. He's left behind tantalizing clues that suggest he's crossed back in time.

Story
It was a typical evening at a mall outside Portland, Maine. Three teenage friends waited for the movie to start. A boy flirted with the girl selling sunglasses. Mothers and children shopped together, and the manager at the video game store tended to customers. Then the shooters arrived. The chaos and carnage lasted only eight minutes before the killers were taken down. But for those who lived through it, the effects would last forever.

Well done!
A delightful story (beginning of no-cliffhangers trilogy) that sees our time travelers back to the time of the revolutionary war. Interesting! Something I especially enjoyed was Emily taking part in activities as she did. I didn’t care for her as a character - unusual for me! - but she was too often outspoken and rude.

To simple
Maybe it was the way the narrator read the story. I felt like I was reading an elementary school book (if you leave out the sex that is) It was a cute story but I was expecting more.

A really good read..
Any additional comments?
I'm a big time travel reader and I was happy with this one. I liked Zane and Emilie and Andrew and Rebekah.
However, there wasn't much excitement in the book, just a lot of worry about Josiah. And the sex was just so-so, IMO.
Over all, it was a good read and I was entertained the whole way through.
As to the narrator: She was just OK. Zane's voice was OK but Andrew's sounded just like Emilie's and there was absolutely no emotion in her reading, which is worse than giving a man a feminine voice, also IMO. I haven't looked yet but if the next book is read by this narrator I might just have to read it, instead of listening to it.
I would also like to say that the description tells us what the book is about or we can zip over to Amazon and look at reviews. This is AUDIBLE! What we need to review is the narrator. Does he or she suck? Why? Is he or she too nasal-y, too sweet for the kind of book he or she is reading, to gruff, too bland, too robotic, lacks emotion. Is he or she doing nothing but reading the book? Not changing his or her voice for the male and female voices? Is the narrator sounding the same whether she or he is reading a whisper spoken?
Most of us on AUDIBLE don't really care what the book is about. We want to know about the narrator! This is AUDIBLE, after all.

Sweet Ending
This book started out quite slow - basically to build character and plot. After the first few chapters I started to get into it more. I really liked the idea of the story.....time travel and romance....it just didn't deliver the "wow" factor for me. I liked the main characters (Emilie and Zane) and enjoyed how they had to adapt to life in a different century. I also liked how early American History was intertwined in the story. I just wish the story had more pizzazz. It did, however, have a sweet ending!
The quality of the sound wasn't the greatest...I heard a lot of echoes - especially in the beginning (not sure if it was a download problem or with my device). The narrator got better as she went along. In the beginning her voice of Zane was poor. Her other voices were much better.
I would still say if you enjoy time travel/romances give this one a try when it goes on sale. If the second in the series becomes available I may give it a try. Sometimes second books are better than the first.

Any additional comments?
I enjoyed reading this book but not listening to it - I couldn't finish it listening to it because I didn't care for the narration. Fun easy read but not a book to listen to with this narrator.

Enjoyable way to renew my history.
Good flow and wonderful characters. I also liked the way the reader was kept wondering if Emily and Zane would return to the present time. Now I want a story about Andrew’s life in the 20th century.

Good book, performed poorly.
What didn’t you like about Janine Hegarty’s performance?
The story is good, but listening to the reader is almost painful. She is trying so hard to enunciate every single word that it sounds choppy and unnatural. She's not very good at changing voices and Zane sounds like a woman with a deep voice. I have not finished the book and am considering returning this one and getting a hard copy to read instead.
