About this listen
Stealth. Gorgon. Regenerator. Cerberus. Zzzap. The Mighty Dragon. They were heroes. Vigilantes. Crusaders for justice, using their superhuman abilites to make Los Angeles a better place. Then the plague of living death spread around the globe. Despite the best efforts of the superheroes, the police, and the military, the hungry corpses rose up and overwhelmed the country. The population was decimated, heroes fell, and the city of angels was left a desolate zombie wasteland like so many others.
Now, a year later, the Mighty Dragon and his companions must overcome their differences and recover from their own scars to protect the thousands of survivors sheltered in their film studio-turned-fortress, the Mount. The heroes lead teams out to scavenge supplies, keep the peace within the walls of their home, and try to be the symbols the survivors so desperately need. For while the ex-humans walk the streets night and day, they are not the only threat left in the world, and the people of the Mount are not the only survivors left in Los Angeles. Across the city, another group has grown and gained power. And they are not heroes.

Gifted with meta-human powers, Tori Rivas kept away from the limelight, preferring to work as a thief in the shadows. But when she's captured trying to rob a vault that belongs to a secret guild of villains, she's offered a hard choice: prove she has what it takes to join them or be eliminated. Apprenticed to one of the world's most powerful (and supposedly dead) villains, she is thrust into a strange world where the lines that divide superheroes and criminals are more complex than they seem.

There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

A man. His ex-girlfriend's cat. A sadistic game show unlike anything in the universe: a dungeon crawl where survival depends on killing your prey in the most entertaining way possible. In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth - from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds - collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground. The buildings and all the people inside have all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot.

Story
Robinson Crusoe is one of the most enduring adventures of the past four centuries and one of the most well-known works in the English language. Or is it? Recently discovered amidst the papers of the 20th-century writer and historian H. P. Lovecraft is what claims to be the true story of Robinson Crusoe. Taken from the castaway's own journals and memoirs, and fact-checked by Lovecraft himself, it is free from many of Defoe's edits and alterations. From Lovecraft's work a much smoother, simpler tale emerges - but also a far more disturbing one.

Not that he'd ever admit it, but maybe he's been waiting - waiting for the traveler to come back. The one who's roared into his life twice before, pausing just long enough to drop tantalizing clues before disappearing in a cloud of gunfire and a squeal of tires. The one who's a walking anachronism, with her tricorne hat, flintlock rifle, and steampunked Model A Ford.

Who in their right mind tells both his lawyer and the judge presiding over his murder trial, “F--k you!” while still in the courtroom? No one, right? Yeah, you’d be wrong about that. I did. You’d say the same thing if you were just found guilty of a murder you didn’t commit, though. Call me crazy for going off like that in court, but trust me, you don’t know crazy until you see what happened next.

Knowledge is power. That would be the motto of Lander University, had it not been snatched up and used to death by others long before the school was founded. For while Lander offers a full range of courses to nearly all students, it also offers a small number of specialty classes to a very select few. Lander is home to the Hero Certification Program, a curriculum designed to develop students with superhuman capabilities, commonly known as Supers, into official Heroes.

All Systems Red is the tense first science fiction adventure novella in Martha Wells' series The Murderbot Diaries. For fans of Westworld, Ex Machina, Ann Leckie's Imperial Raadch series, or Iain M. Banks' Culture novels. The main character is a deadly security droid that has bucked its restrictive programming and is balanced between contemplative self-discovery and an idle instinct to kill all humans.

We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

I can't believe I listened to the whole thing
I kept thinking, "this is Peter Clines"....it has to get better. BUT it's a glorified zombie book. None of the magical thinking of his previous work. You have to like zombies to like this book.

Not Bad
This wasn't the greatest zombie book ever, but there wasn't any standout bad parts either. The narration was good, the story interesting, but it wasn't the kind of book you try to find chores to do so you can listen more. I would still rate Day by Day Armageddon and the Morningstar books higher that this one. That being said, this book has action, zombies, and superheroes. What more can I say, other than I am glad I didn't use a credit for it?

zombies vs superheros Niceeeeeeee
What happens in a world where superheros live and the living dead have taken over the world. A Little slow at times but a wonderful listen. I bought about a month ago and have listened to it twice now. I have recommended it to several friends and recommend you try it

Super Heroes and Zombies, what's not to love?
Where does Ex-Heroes rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
It rates among my top 20 but I've listened to a lot of audiobooks by the greats.
What did you like best about this story?
I liked how the author combined the two genres without the story feeling forced. It felt like both a comic book and a horror movie. The literary device of breaking the story into current and past time lines works well and helps to develop the heroes. Like any good comic book you need an origin story and this audiobook does a great job of including the heroes origins alongside a compelling story.
Have you listened to any of Jay Snyder and Khristine Hvam ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No but I really enjoyed having two voice actors for the reading. It worked to set the female characters apart from the male characters and make each one their own.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
For these superheroes the end of the world was just the beginning of their story.
Any additional comments?
If you like comic books and enjoy a good zombie apocalypse yarn then you will really enjoy this audiobook.

Great post apocalyptic, walking dead, superheroes and supervillains type of story. Not like 14 but different and engrossing its own right. Get ready to get lost in another world!

Couldn't really get into it
I wanted to like this book. I'm a fan of superheroes and grew up on Marvel comics. But I felt like the narration was hard to follow -- I was often confused as to who was who. I never felt connected to any of the characters. The story felt more like an episode of a TV show than a a "complete story." Nothing really grabbed me (no pun intended).

Not my favorite
I enjoyed one if the authors other books (14), so I thought I'd try this one. Who doesn't like a good zombie tale? I found my mind constantly wandering and I had a hard time telling the characters apart. Plus, the story kept switching from past to present. probably would be a better book to read rather than listen to.

Different
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
sure why not
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
am i the only person who is annoyed by this new format of review writing?
Would you listen to another book narrated by Jay Snyder and Khristine Hvam ?
sure why not
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
definitely
Any additional comments?
I swore i would never buy another stupid zombie book, but this one had the added bonus of super heroes. Oh boy! I think that was what saved it for me,

Superheros and Zombies! What's not to like.
Kind of started off slow. But once I suspended my disbelief and bought into the concept, it was a pretty good action story. The characters were interesting and likable, and the story was well written. I finished it in just a few days.
