Publisher's summary

A gripping racetrack thrilller from the best-selling author of Driving Force and Comeback

The stakes are deadly at Stratton Park. Architect and family man Lee Morris never gave much thought to the shares he inherited of the Stratton Park racecourse, the multi-million dollar property owned by the powerful Stratton family. His mother had first received the shares to keep her quiet about the abuse she had suffered at the hands of her first husband, Keith Stratton. Now, much to Lee's chagrin, he is being drawn into the thick of the Stratton family squabbles as they wage a furious debate over the future of the race track.

So when Lee packs his six sons into his renovated old bus to visit the racetrack, he finds himself embroiled in a supremely dangerous game that extends much deeper than horse racing. And perhaps too late, Lee realizes his involvement in the racetrack may cost him more than he bargained for. It may cost him his life.

This Horse Won't Let You Off

I recently finished listening to Decider written by Dick Francis and narrated by Simon Prebble

Lee Morris, a family man and local architect, has finally settled into a home that he is happy with when trouble shows up on his doorstep. The Stratton Racepark is in trouble because the Stratton family is tearing itself apart. He is involved, whether he wants to be or not, because his departed mother left him a number of shares she was given by the recently deceased patriarch of the family.

What initially appears to be merely a family struggle heats up when someone blows up the park with Lee and one of his sons in it. They just barely escape death's clutches, but who did it and, more importantly, can his family ever be safe if the bomber isn't found?

Simon Prebble delivers his usual excellent narration here adding such depth and dry wit to the characters that one can only admire his skill. He really grabs your attention and holds onto it.

Conclusion: This is a great mystery full of lots of twists and turns. The characters really spring to life in your mind between the insightful writing and inspired narration. I had serious trouble stopping this book to take a break of any sort. It grabbed my imagination and kept on running.

Bad ending

I really enjoyed the story but was extremely disappointed by the last few paragraphs. Ruined the book for me.

Picturing the house he renovated for his family and the great relationship he had with his sons.

Another great story from Dick Francis.
Good characters and perfect plot. Your son Felix is an OK writer but you got the gift!

One of His Best.

I've listened to several of Dick Francis novels. The Decider is definitely one of his best. The characters are well developed (though a couple are a little over the top). The lead character, Lee, is quite interesting for his profession (architect), his family (six sons!)who
accompany him to the racetrack setting, and his faltering marriage. Of course, he's smart, insightful, and measured in his handling of the dangerous situation. The plot has twists and several secrets to be discovered before the major conflict is resolved. As usual, Simon Prebble is superb as the narrator. A worthwhile listen.

Simon Prebble Perfect As Aleays

Dick Francis keeps me coming back with the mystery mingled with horses. He never forgets the importance of good character development. It done so smoothly that his characters become important to the reader.
Must go now, another Dick Francis novel is calling me.

Typical Dick Francis

I have many books by this author and have liked him for nearly fifteen years. Hadn't read this one and have very few complaints (the oldest kid didnt't seem entirely realistic but that's ok). I specifically only get ones narrated by Simon Prebble because he is g r e a t. Not 100% a fan of the ending but it is realistic.
