About this listen

They say bad things happen in threes. After my boyfriend broke off our engagement, I lost my apartment, and was laid off from my job, I can definitely attest to that.

They also say life is what happens when you say yes to new adventures. So when my two sisters invited me to ring in the new year in Ireland, I decided to throw all caution to the wind and go for it. I was going to let "saying yes" be my new resolution.

Little did I know I'd spend New Year's Eve having a hot and dirty one-night stand with Padraig McCarthy, one hell of a sexy Irishman. I also didn't know that the brooding and intense sex god was one of Ireland's top rugby players. A rugby player with a proposition for me: come with him to his tiny hometown of Shambles and pretend to be his fiancee for a few days, just so that his ailing father can have some peace of mind.

It sounded simple enough. It was anything but. Not when a town gets up in your business, not when the media hunts you down, not when your past comes back in the picture, not when there are real hearts and feelings at stake.

They say life is what happens when you say yes to new adventures. This is my life in Shambles.

Contains mature themes.

WE love a good Irish romance

My heart. What a great romance. If you want a romance with a good HEA with a hunky, brooding, rugby playin Irishman, then this is the book for you. The narrator did a great job and the accents were spot on. Caution: Sex scenes are wow!!

Such a wonderful beautiful love story

I thought the last book I read Karina's was my favorite but this has beat it. An Irish love story has always been a favorite to my heart and this definitely brought that. I would love to read more in a series, A few of the characters in this story would make an awesome follow up.

Brings my favorite book to life beautifully

Human soulmates are fine and good, but if you've ever found your soul in a book- well, the feeling of hearing that brought to life by capable and emotive narrators is a whole different level.

Both narrators do a gorgeous job with Padraig and Valerie, and all the emotional twists and depth of their story. I was a little worried, but this is absolutely flawless.

Great story

I'm not a writer, but love the talent of a great story teller. Love the journey of discovering life with unforseen change and struggles. coming out better on the otherside together

Cringeworthy accents

I would’ve given this a higher rating of not for the female narrator. Her accents made me cringe.

Not Your Ordinary Escape from New York

Don't Discount this Story as being silly and formulaic. While it may be a bit predictable - Karina who is an excellent, excellent writer. She channels Padraig and Valerie in a way so few authors achieve - Ella Frank channels Tate and Logan - NR Walker channels Charlie and Travis, Cooper and Thomas - Christina Lauren channels Sara and Max in Beautiful Stranger. Diana Gabaldon channels Jamie and Claire - I could name many others but Bottom line is Padraig and Valerie seem real, I love the alternating POV's when they happen, - I love the real deliberative feelings that are flowing - and the feeling that Love will overtake them all - and I love it when the guy - no matter how simple or complex decides he is going to care as much as the girl does - and puts her first. True love is each putting the other over themselves - and it feels so rare the older I get - IRL - so - if you want it to last, it's what you look for - and you don't settle for less!!!! These two are both wrestling with really pivotal and heart wrenching times in their lives - and I love it that they appear to see things relatively clearly and don't put monster obstacles in their own way.

Beautifully done. Don't discount Karina's writing ever by the description of the story line - Padraig and Valerie are mesmerizing in their relationship and it feels remarkably ordinary but Extraordinary - you can feel the Once in a Lifetime Pouring through from the moment they meet - the whole dynamic takes on an ethereal and compelling shift - don't miss this - and the Audible brings it from 6 Stars to 10 Stars. I'm just listening and there is no loss of attention! These narrators are amazing - with special kudos to Mr. Sawyer. Keep it up Karina - keep it real - it's what we love - and keep us believing in love and miracles - because they do happen - and we all need to Believe!!!

I'm crying...

Almost perfect! I had so much emotions! While yes, there were elements that entering trope territory (nothing wrong with that!), it was just so much more than that. These characters felt so raw and beautiful. I wish Val had made more female friends, but I guess that one of my two hang ups.

While I didn't actually dislike anything greatly, there were a few times when the Irish accent was... interesting. For example, the term 'idiot' lowkey reminded me of Ren and Stimpy. And once I realized it I could not unhear it. That was not the narrator's fault, It's just my own issue.

Other than that, there's just something about this story that worked really well! It was a treat.
