About this listen

Newly appointed US Ambassador Elizabeth Turner is still getting used to her post in Mauritania, Africa. She has lots of plans for her time in office, but those plans are forgotten when a crowd of angry protesters start to gather outside the embassy - bringing both sporadic gunfire and concern for the ambassador's safety.

Flagler Security Agent Angel McTaggart will never understand why an intelligent woman would choose to come to a country where women are devalued. Not that her opinion matters, she knows, because she's here to do one job and one job only - keep the ambassador safe at all costs.

Angel needs to get the situation under control quickly before an attempt to storm the embassy becomes an option for the rioters. Elizabeth Turner isn't uncooperative, she reasons, just headstrong and opinionated. Angel knows she's worked with worse, but no one who's had the effect on her that the ambassador seems to be having now.

Focusing on her job might be harder than she thinks....

It was a nice story

Nice story. Good characters with an interesting plot. The narrator was ok..sometimes I had to go back 30 seconds to see who was talking being it was hard to tell her voices for some of the characters apart.

Nice

This book is nice. has a lot of , information but there's not a romantic book with hot scene, but that doesn't mean that the book is boring or something, absolutely nothing like that, for the contrary, the book is very nic

The Characters

I couldn’t stop listening. Listened to the whole book in one day. Enjoyed the characters, the sexual tension between them was fun and exciting. The story compelling.

The ending was not quiet what I expected. Maybe there will be a sequel set a bit in the future? A love like that should have a future right?

a pleasant but ultimately disappointing romance

This is a pleasant book but it's not very deep. the tension between the two women is ultimately not very interesting or complicated. The tropes are well known and not elaborated. The book deals with some very important feminist issues about a poor African nation or a poor Muslim nation. The issue of the way women are treated and the limitations of their lives, genital mutilations, etc are mentioned but not really explored. One of the two main characters is the American ambassador to Mauritania. She really wants to help this country but even though pressed to tell us by the woman she's falling for she never really does explain. Her love interest is also similarly sketchy

Wanted more!!

The scenario surrounding the drama at the Embassy was dramatic and so like recent events in the world.
The chemistry between the two women was great as were their professionalism.
Great narration.

Loved this books

I know very little about Mauritania, so the subject was excellent, I love when the love blossoms between an official and a guardian. Loved the characters, and narration was superb.

Predictable

The story line was pretty predictable no surprises, the voice artist sounded disinterested and was hard to get into the story I almost didn’t finish it.

Just not believable.

For some reason it is just not believable that these characters have feelings for each other or that they have any clue how to protect a government official. I mean, if you suspect the guy that takes care of the cats to be up to something illegal, why the heck would you leave your 3 armored vehicles in his care overnight and then why wouldn’t you check them before driving into the desert???? Really? A private security company and a bunch of marines will just blindly give the guy the benefit of the doubt? I really tried, listened for a long time, but when the two main characters were fighting for their lives, alone in a desert village, no car, and the security officer pushes the official against a building to protect her, I don’t think the official would have any libido reaction to that. Her life is in danger! Just not realistic at all.
