About this listen

Angie Turner's Idaho restaurant, the County Seat, owes its success not only to its farm-fresh fair but also to its devoted and passionate staff. But a team-building retreat turns into much more than they bargained for....

Angie and her County Seat staff are all prepared for some much-needed R&R. Hope's been hinting at an arts-and-crafts-themed retreat. Instead, they end up at a military veteran's home, where it's their job to get it spic-and-span for summer. In between weeding the garden and painting the rooms, Angie starts up a conversation with an older vet who wants to make amends with his son before it's too late. Unfortunately, he has no idea of his son's whereabouts. It's the perfect side job for the County Seat team, but someone keeps blocking their efforts. And the more they try to find out why, the more they're certain someone's life might be in danger....

continue the story line

I loved following Angie and her collective family through this series. Can't wait for the next book.

Good cozy mystery

Great cozy mystery. Both the author Lyn Cahoon and the narrator Susan Boyce kept me invested from the first chapter. With a number of twists and turns and a result I didn’t see coming, I was hooked.

The characters are easy to relate to and you quickly become invested in their story. Cannot wait to read and or listen to more from this author.

Enjoyed it!!

I loved the dog and his part in this story. This mystery was short but worth the read/listen.

Teamwork

Angie and her team are spending a week at a Veterans Home to help rebuild the place. Something isn’t right however and they find themselves looking into a suspicious dead. Plus they are trying to find one of the resident’s son. Great series.

Editing???

So often in cozies editing -time tracking, name changes, details not followed - it’s truly lacking. Examples here few, but a short story: apple pie timing, and most egregious - it’s Fred not Greg from Scooby Doo!!! ;)

Pop culture issues, weak storytelling (SPOILERS)

Enjoyable, fast-paced, but glaring editing issues as the author or the narrator got the Acooby-Doo gang's names wrong (Greg instead of Fred). That is kind of a big glaring issue, as both the writer AND the narrator should have caught this.

While I enjoyed the story and meeting Randy, Kendrick and the murderer were sort of throw away characters. I hate introducing an unseen character, only to have the reveal at the very end. The themes of racism, generational trauma, and treatment of the elderly I felt were handled well but still not the best work. Susan Boyce did decently with the material provided.
