Publisher's summary

City girl Calla Fletcher attempts to reconnect with her estranged father, and unwittingly finds herself torn between her desire to return to the bustle of Toronto and a budding relationship with a rugged Alaskan pilot in this masterful new romance from acclaimed author K.A. Tucker.

Calla Fletcher was two when her mother took her and fled the Alaskan wild, unable to handle the isolation of the extreme, rural lifestyle, leaving behind Calla’s father, Wren Fletcher, in the process. Calla never looked back, and at 26, a busy life in Toronto is all she knows. But when her father reaches out to inform her that his days are numbered, Calla knows that it’s time to make the long trip back to the remote frontier town where she was born.

She braves the roaming wildlife, the odd daylight hours, the exorbitant prices, and even the occasional - dear God - outhouse, all for the chance to connect with her father: a man who, despite his many faults, she can’t help but care for. While she struggles to adjust to this new subarctic environment, Jonah - the quiet, brooding, and proud Alaskan pilot who keeps her father’s charter plane company operational - can’t imagine calling anywhere else home. And he’s clearly waiting with one hand on the throttle to fly this city girl back to where she belongs, convinced that she’s too pampered to handle the wild.

Jonah is probably right, but Calla is determined to prove him wrong. As time passes, she unexpectedly finds herself forming a bond with the burly pilot. As his undercurrent of disapproval dwindles, it’s replaced by friendship - or perhaps something deeper? But Calla is not in Alaska to stay and Jonah will never leave. It would be foolish of her to kindle a romance, to take the same path her parents tried - and failed at - years ago.

It’s a simple truth that turns out to be not so simple after all.

Editor's Pick

It just hits the sweet spot
"For me, this was the kind of love story that arrived exactly when I needed it. I felt like I got to escape to faraway Alaska and ride along on this adventure with Calla, our protagonist. The dialogue is so cute and funny between Calla and her enemy-guy, Jonah. I praised narrator Rebekkah Ross again and again for her delivery while I laughed. I was reminded of Nora Roberts’s Northern Lights, the feeling of warm campfires on damp nights, and the scent of fresh mountain air. How I miss it."

Emotional and Beautiful

I almost didn’t write this review because I’m late to the party...didn’t feel like I had anything to add after skimming the reviews..and potentially no one will even read this. But I just have to say this was a beautiful journey I’m glad I didn’t miss out on. I almost stopped reading this book a couple different times in the beginning. It is slow to start, imo. And the heroine doesn’t come across extremely likable. She’s a vain/superficial 26 year old still mooching off her mom and stepdad. Not appealing to me in the least. Also, it was at least a couple hours into the story before the H and h even meet. There was a lot of fluff and it wasn’t all that enticing. Further, I couldn’t wrap my head around a father who had just let his child “go”, not fighting for her, fighting for memories, fighting for time spent. He didn’t seem worthy of her coming to him. Being there. Forming a relationship. Preparing to be with him as his life came to an end. But I forged through and was delighted with the depth of the story and characters I found. I laughed. I cried. I fell in love with the storyline and the people, main characters and side characters alike. The h, in particular, showed a tremendous amount of growth and I was pleased with her character development. Narration was also good. I prefer a dual POV or duet narration but the narrator didn't disappoint. Highly recommend. Don’t give up if you’re not taken by the story in the initial phase. Beautiful. Emotional. A perfect example of how opposites attract. An excellent portrayal of finding love when you least expect it. Can’t wait to read the next installment. Kudos to this talented author.

Add this to you reread often list

This book is so moving. Women’s fic meets contemporary romance and Tucker hits it out of the park. The banter is great, the emotions are real, the love is swoon worthy

Calla and Jonah forever

Calla & Jonah have stolen a piece of my heart but so have Wren, Agnes & Mabel ❤️ This was such a great book about an immature girl who learns about her estranged father's illness and she goes up to Alaska to meet him and form a relationship....what she didn't expect was to grow and mature and become a strong, independent woman and to fall in love.

This book is a single POV and Rebekkah Ross does such a fabulous job portraying Calla.

Unexpectedly wonderful

I purchased this book based on a YouTube review and honestly I wasn't expecting much... but wow... I laughed, I cried, my heart felt like it was going to explode...

Definitely worth the read 🖤 This novel was a fabulous change of pace for a romance junkie like me who usually goes for historical romances. However, I liked the modern story and the challenges the characters face. I really became attached to these characters and their stories. I can't wait to read the next one!!

A Tale of Love Between a Barbie and a Yeti

This book was so beautifully written and it really makes you feel as if you are experiencing Calla's life right along with her. I could feel the frustration and hurt, the happiness and love that all these characters were experiencing. I laughed, I cried, and I swooned.

This book was so much more than just a romance story. It's about family and community. It's about self discovery, growth, and recognizing the things that really matter in life. And finally...it's about acceptance and forgiveness.

I absolutely loved the bantering and chemistry between Calla and Jonah....The Barbie and the Yeti. The Raven and the Goose Wife. Jonah is serious book boyfriend material!!!!

I am so glad I have the next book ready to devour, because I need to know what's next for Jonah and Calla.

Such a Good Book!!!!

I truly loved this book. Calla's relationship with her Dad reminds me a lot of my relationship with my Dad. They sorry is heartbreaking, heartfelt, and real. It's a great story about how we can't change the past, must make the most of the present, and sometimes have to compromise for those we love.
