About this listen

One corpse. Several bizarre looking attackers. Some very strange magical powers. And a severe bout of amnesia.

Madrona is not having a great week. It's going to be okay, though. All she has to do is find out who she really is, protect a soap star from being attacked by a stalker, and work out why so many people seem so afraid of her. Because surely she's a good person. Right?

Loved it

I love Helen Harper so very much. It took me a little while to reconcile that this wasn’t part of her Lazy Witch series lol (I knew it wasn’t but I was having withdrawals, and since it was the same cover artist a very small part of me hoped it was in the same world... so I didn’t read the blurb to stay blissfully ignorant), but once I accepted that, I really enjoyed it. Narrator was great. This book starts off with a bang, meanders into many a funny circumstance, and ends with it all coming together in a way I didn’t expect. Great characters. Hilarious as always. The ending wasn’t a full cliffhanger but ends in conflict.

Villain or Heroine

Villain or heroine is the question that as a reader you are asking throughout most of this book; sadly it ends in a cliffhanger and you still don't know the answer. This would be fine if they had the next book available but they don't and I don't know when they will. More of the books in the series are available in print so if I get desperate enough, I could actually physically 'read the book.' But as someone who listens while doing chores. Listening makes it much easier to consume my reading list.

answer this question

What would you do if you woke up and found out you were a superhero who had just killed somebody ; but all your memories were gone. No ID, no money, no clue how you fit into the scheme of things. Would you act like a teenager and run out and start trying to save people? Or would you go someplace secret and conduct some research to determine your abilities and your liabilities before you made a move.

the answer to that question will determine whether you enjoy this book because this heroine has to go a mediately get a cape and go save a cat! only to find out she has enemies. Sorry, I could not stick this one out.

Amazing story great narrator

Fantastic original story with an amazing narrator. If the story doesn't grip you than the great narrator will pull you in. Couldn't stop listening, day and night.

abrupt cliffhanger ending

Good book overall. Lead is fun and keeps the plot moving forward always.

Ending is blah tho.

I don't regret reading the book but wish I had the next one in audio.

A Box of Frogs

If you came here from Slouch Witch, then dont expect the same type of good time. Where Slouch Witch was fun, this one was silly.

If you just stick to the murder mystery and amnesia part of the story, then I think its a decent romantic comedy. You have a female lead who thinks she might be a Superhero but isnt quite sure. She falls into some tricky situations but makes it through with her "super power" and pure luck. Add in a Soap Opera star, sexy male interest, and a murder... now that's where we are with this one.

Unfortunately there is no real explanation on the Fairies or the other supernaturals. This part of the story felt underdeveloped. Also, I hate when stories are full of supernaturals who dont know the others actually exist. 😒 if there vampires, then you can bet there are werewolves. If there are Angel's then there are most definitely Demons. There is no way long lived creatures are on the earth and dont realise there are other supernaturals.

This is a great book if you're looking for a light read with a bit of corky.

The narrator had to grow on me. About a third of the way through I was able to relax into the story.

3 Stars 🌟🌟🌟- Good Book. I like the overall concept and it was delivered well. Most common ranking for a book I enjoyed and look forward to the next.

Enjoyed it

Helen Harper has created a great storyline that is unlike any other I’ve listened to and I can’t wait to start the next in this series.
Gabrielle Baker gave an outstanding performance as she breathed life into the storyline and gave each character their own distinct voice.
I highly recommend this book/audiobook to cozy mystery fans.

Not Helen Harper’s finest

I’ve read & thoroughly enjoyed all the books in Helen Harper’s series: Blood Destiny, Highland Magic & The Lazy Girls Guide to Magic. Her books are well written & a lot of fun.
“Box of Frogs” has me scratching my head. Three hours into it & I have no clue what it’s about & so far there is nothing about it that makes me want to continue. The writing as well as the narration is stilted & awkward. The narrator attempts at an accent are unsuccessful, she sounds like she has a mouth full of marbles. I’m definitely NOT enjoying myself.
I’m still an avid Helen Harper fan & hope that “Box of Frogs” is a one off.
