INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

Named one of Entertainment Tonight’s Best Celebrity Memoirs of 2023

As seen in The New York Times, People, The Cut, Vulture, The Daily Beast, Today, Bustle, Us Weekly, Life & Style, and Interview

“No stone goes unturned” (People) in this memoir about The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Heather Gay’s departure from the Mormon Church, and her unforeseen success in business, television, and single motherhood.

Straight off the slopes and into the spotlight, Heather Gay is famous for speaking the gospel truth. Whether as a businesswoman, mother, or television personality, she is unafraid to blaze a new trail, even if it means losing family, friends, and her community.

Born and bred to be devout, Heather based her life around her faith. She attended Brigham Young University, served a mission in France, and married into Mormon royalty in the temple. But her life as a good Mormon abruptly ended when she lost the marriage and faith that she had once believed would last forever.

With writing that is beautiful, sad, funny, and true, Heather recounts the difficult discovery of the darkness and damage that often exists behind a picture-perfect life, while examining the nuanced relationship between duty to self and duty to God. “An eye-opening firsthand account of religious indoctrination told with candor and sincerity” (Interview magazine), Bad Mormon is an unfiltered look at the religion that broke her heart.

Honest and brave. Amen and Amen.

A brave truth about Mormon womanhood, and sacrificing every part of yourself for the faith. I appreciated the honesty and could deeply relate.

A-mazing and brave and real!

This book gives an exceptional look at the problematic lifestyle of members in the Mormon Church. I loved it! For the majority of Mormon history rich white men have controlled the narrative. They twist and manipulate truth to keep them rich and in power. Then enters Heather Gay with HER TRUTH that has EXPOSED so much about what its really like to be a Mormon. My biggest wish is that Heather Gay will someday know how her story touched me and others who have been hurt by the Mormon Church. I am also now a Bad Mormon and highly recommend this book.

So Honest!

Love this book! Also love Heather Gay so much more! So incredibly rare to have such self reflection and honesty, especially when it comes to religion and the role it plays in the development of self and how we view ourselves in the world.

Entertaining and Informative

As a fan of Ms. Gay, it is interesting learning things that don't ordinarily get covered in her House frau testimonials. I will never profess to ever understand or agree with any organized religion (especially Mormonism!) so hearing about things you don't typically know about was interesting. Kudos to Ms. Gay for consistently rebounding from the knockdowns. Here's to her continuing success.

Best memoir ever!

Thoughtful, funny, and heartfelt, I couldn’t help but devour this memoir. Not just a Housewives book, this is the story of Heather Gay’s life and process of becoming a Real Housewife and embracing who she really is!

Relatable and Fun Read

So happy Heather read her story! I loved how she approached a very painful deconstruction with humor and openness. No one understands the dark night of the soul unless they’ve gone through it themselves. This book was heavy with content but delivered with lightness. Enjoyed it very much!!

Could not put it down

I listened to the entire book in one day. I could relate on so many levels, having been raised and 100% in the LDS church and then leaving. Laughed, Cried and cheered the whole way through. Great job Heather
