Publisher's summary

This “clever and satisfying” (Associated Press) #1 international bestseller for fans of Kristin Hannah and Jennifer Chiaverini follows three women who are bound together by a long-lost letter, a mother’s love, and a secret network of women fighting for the right to choose—inspired by true stories.

2017: When Angela Creighton discovers a mysterious letter containing a life-shattering confession, she is determined to find the intended recipient. Her search takes her back to the 1970s when a group of daring women operated an illegal underground abortion network in Toronto known only by its whispered code name: Jane.

1971: As a teenager, Dr. Evelyn Taylor was sent to a home for “fallen” women where she was forced to give up her baby for adoption—a trauma she has never recovered from. Despite the constant threat of arrest, she joins the Jane Network as an abortion provider, determined to give other women the choice she never had.

1980: After discovering a shocking secret about her family, twenty-year-old Nancy Mitchell begins to question everything she has ever known. When she unexpectedly becomes pregnant, she feels like she has no one to turn to for help. Grappling with her decision, she locates “Jane” and finds a place of her own alongside Dr. Taylor within the network’s ranks, but she can never escape the lies that haunt her.

Looking for Jane is “a searing, important, beautifully written novel about the choices we all make and where they lead us—as well as a wise and timely reminder of the difficult road women had to walk not so long ago” (Kristin Harmel, New York Times bestselling author).

Couldn't put it down!

Not only is this story woven into a riveting listen, I absolutely love the theme of feminine justice. Very well done!

Gripping, heartbreaking story. I didn’t predict the surprise twist in the ending yet enjoyed it.

Great story, performance, and piece of historical fiction. Sarah Borges narration was on point and the story kept my attention for the entirety. I love the beautiful ending. So good.

Heather Please Research Medical Info

Really liked this book until I got to the first OB ultrasound appointment. I wish authors would do more research. The 2nd heartbeat would be “seen” on the early ultrasound (5-6weeks if viable) NOT by the doppler at 7 weeks. Even at 7 weeks the ultrasound would be used to confirm heartbeats, too early for doppler over the belly. No physician would EVER use doppler over ultrasound in confirmation of twins (multiples).

Powerful

An incredible read that looks at the right for reproductive freedom in Canada. It looks at the use government sanctioned “maternity homes” that were run by the Catholic Church, and the abuses suffered by the “inmates” held. This story hits close to home because I have a relative who had her child stolen from her at one of these homes in the 1950s… she never recovered from the trauma and died after a really tragic life.

The fact that access to reproductive care is still an issue, is shocking and shameful. We should not have to fight this battle over again.

Powerful read

This book was hard to listen to but so important. I am grateful to the author for educating me about post war maternity homes and the history of the underground abortion network in Canada during the mid-twentieth century

Outstanding!

As an adoptee who I am sure was purchased through the Catholic Church, this book is so insightful.
