Story
Fiona, Sue, and Daisy, three retired ladies who volunteer at the local charity shop, Dogs Need Nice Homes, can’t believe their favorite customer is dead. Eighty-six-year-old Sarah Brown was found murdered in her hallway by her delivery man, a domino clutched in her hand—with a name scratched on it. When another person is found dead with a domino in their hand, and with the police making no progress, the ladies will need to help unmask a serial killer. At least they have Fiona’s scruffy-haired terrier cross to assist them.

Murder is a dish best served ice cold... In the idyllic, small town of Dewstow, Margery and Clementine are eagerly awaiting retirement from their work on the front-line serving meals to the students at Summerview secondary school. Their peaceful life is shattered when their kitchen manager is found dead in the school’s walk-in freezer. The police are adamant that it’s an open-and-shut case of accidental death. But Margery and Clementine are convinced that something more sinister is afoot and take it upon themselves to investigate.

Story
Jo Jones has always had a little trouble fitting in. As a neurodivergent, hyperlexic book editor and divorced New Yorker transplanted into the English countryside, Jo doesn’t know what stands out more: her Americanisms or her autism. After losing her job, her mother, and her marriage all in one year, she couldn’t be happier to take possession of a possibly haunted (and clearly unwanted) family estate in North Yorkshire. But when the body of the moody town groundskeeper turns up on her rug with three bullets in his back, Jo finds herself in potential danger—and she’s also a potential suspect.

Publisher's summary
In this fun, cozy, debut mystery, an antiques hunter investigates a suspicious death at an isolated English manor, embroiling her in the high-stakes world of tracking stolen artifacts.
What antique would you kill for?
Freya Lockwood is shocked when she learns that Arthur Crockleford, antiques dealer and her estranged mentor, has died under mysterious circumstances. She has spent the last twenty years avoiding her quaint English hometown, but when she receives a letter from Arthur asking her to investigate—sent just days before his death—Freya has no choice but to return to a life she had sworn to leave behind.
Joining forces with her eccentric Aunt Carole, Freya follows clues to an old manor house for an advertised antiques enthusiast’s weekend. But not all is as it seems. It’s clear to Freya that the antiques are all just poor reproductions, and her fellow guests are secretive and menacing. What is going on at this estate and how was Arthur involved? More importantly, can Freya and Carole discover the truth before the killer strikes again?

Story
Three months ago, Tansy Bloom quit monster hunting. Since then, she’s been trying to live a normal life (whatever that means), but ending up single, unemployed, and living on a boat outside her godfather’s pub definitely wasn’t part of the plan. So, when Tansy’s ex-husband – fellow monster hunter Rex Barclay – turns up like a bad penny and asks for her help with his latest investigation, Tansy reluctantly agrees. At first, the job appears to be a straightforward monster hunt – following a spate of large creature sightings, Rex believes a werewolf is on the loose in Norfolk.

Good cozy murder mystery
Good cozy murder, a lot of repetition. I listened to the audiobook all the way through in one sitting on a trip and I could tell that this may have been written for someone picking up and putting down a physical book. It felt like the main character went over the same situation and explained the same thing multiple times to the reader when it could have been left out. We only need to be told 1-2 times that she distrusted Arthur or had a grudge against him/ her ex husband or something happened in Cairo. It unfortunately made me resent the main characters monologue or “inner thoughts” sections of the book. I think she was the weakest of all the cast of characters. But perhaps those felt repetitive to me because I was going through it in one sitting vs picking up/putting down a book over a period of time- I could see needing reminders then. Bella was a very interesting character and would love to see more “internal monologues” from her or other characters (Carol!! What is her POV through this) to build suspense.

Antique and mystery
I love old objects, antique shops and mysteries set in manors in the countryside. This book was kinda really up my alley. I immediately had to google wally bird, and now I am in love with them.
There were times I felt the writing was a little erratic, but I found the story captivating enough to ignore certain details, and the narration was excellent, even if the US accents proved to be a bit challenging. Overall, this was an enjoyable read, and I look forward to reading the next novel when it comes out.

I am ready for more!
This was such a delightful cozy mystery, with very loveable characters, well placed comedy, and an intriguing plot that keeps you guessing. It isn't overly complicated, just an easygoing listen, and the subject matter is unique. I was definitely pulled into the story and did not want to leave, and by the last quarter I was dreading that there wouldn't be more of Freya and Carol (and Phil) right away. The interview at the end of this version, done with the author and narrator, is also delightful, and reveals that there is already a second book in the works, and is nearly finished. I will be anxiously waiting for Emilia Fox to finish narrating the sequel, and Audible to make it available.
