  • Summary

  • We jump forward to medieval times, and the royal jesters’ politically sensitive role in court politics. Keegan moves on to describe the traveling troupes of Commedia del’Arte and their performers who forged comedy character tropes we know and love in sketch today. Keegan also shares his experiences as a performer at a Renaissance faire in Michigan… and yes he still has the full wardrobe.

VERY enjoyable and unexpected!

I’m a big fan of Keegan so I knew I would like this podcast but it still surprises me just how much I am enjoying this series. I have two key take-aways after listening to several episodes today:

1. Keegan should start reading books for Audible immediately. I think I’ve seen every one of his movie / show performances and I still had no idea he could do SO many voices, impersonations, etc. What incredible range he has - so talented!! In all honesty I could listen to him read the phone book (sorry if you’re too young to know what a phone book is. Ask your grandparents! 😃) — So it should come as no surprise that I think he should narrate novels on Audible. The perfect way for Amazon to acquire the last portion of my paycheck they aren’t already receiving!! #justsayin’

2. I am fascinated by how much goes into comedy that I never had a clue about. Hearing all the terminology, characters, etc. made me realize how much I under-appreciated what it takes to perform comedy well. I always find Keegan funny but I realized through the laughter that I was actually learning something. He uses amazing examples to make the history relevant and relatable. Extremely well done.

Finally, it’s very clear how much Keegan loves the art of comedy. His passion and excitement can be heard in every word he delivers. We should all be so lucky to find something that moves us in this way. You can tell he’s really a student of his craft and I have a whole new appreciation for his talent.

I look forward to the next episode — take a listen, you won’t regret it!! Highly recommend!!

the Keys are knocking it out

Dissecting comedy without killing the humor & repeating well-known sketches without killing them either? Yes, it can be done! Still grinning. "I'm happy! I'm happy!"
