New narrator, no worries.

I've actually never written an audible review before, but felt compelled to do so in this instance as I believe the bashing of the Narrator is unwarranted. Yes, Jennifer Ikeda did a terrific job on the previous two books. I am as disappointed as you guys. However, I don't believe Amanda Leigh Cobb deserves the negative reviews of her performance. Of course it is different from Jennifer's, they are different humans. But, it doesn't make it bad performance by any means. I hope you give it a chance, because after the first part of the book, I hardly remembered that there had even been a change and was as into the writing as ever.

New narrator is awful!

I love Sarah J. Maas' books. She is a masterful writer and her work really resonates with me. This series, like Harry Potter, keeps getting better and better!

Why this audiobook would be narrated by a different voice actress mid-series is very confusing. Amanda's tone, inflections and acting are distracting and so, so wrong. What happened to Jennifer Ikeda!? I tried listening and had to turn it off after 7 minutes because I simply couldn't focus on the story. Such a shame! Please redo this book with our beloved Jennifer or refund our Audible credit.

New Narrator is NOT awful. She does a great job

Any additional comments?

Let me start by saying I love Jennifer Ikeda. I love listening to her so much I've purchased audiobooks just because she is the narrator. At first I was upset that she did not narrate the third book in this series. But I had to know how the story ended so I purchased the book.

Amanda Cobb does a fantastic job in a tough position. It can't be easy being the new narrator in a beloved series. Whatever the reason Jennifer Ikeda did not do the third book, Amanda was a great narrator to follow her.

Most of the complaints I've read in these reviews are unfounded in my opinion. There is no background noise, the characters are not lifeless or boring. I think she is so close to how Jennifer read the characters, sometimes I almost forget its a different narrator at all. I'm sure this is more to do with the director and not the narrator.

Amanda sounds so good in fact, I'm going to find some other books she narrated and buy them.

Amazing Book/Enjoying the New Narriation

As always I'm blown away by the books that Sarah writes she truly is a master at her craft. I know that we had a change in narration for this series and I have really enjoyed Amanda's take on this world thus far. Change is never easy but neither is stepping into a series at the end.

The narrator change was distracting.

Would you consider the audio edition of A Court of Wings and Ruin to be better than the print version?
No, I have no doubt Amanda Leigh Cobb is talented. However, I found the change in narrator to be distracting. Ikeda did such an amazing job at giving each character her own voice. I would know who was speaking even if it didn't directly note who it was. I had a very difficult time becoming immersed in the story telling. I had a 5 and half hour drive to listen and kept rewinding because I would begin to day dream. The other two previous books. I LOVED the narration and have listened to multiple times. Pretty much on repeat with a few favorites between. I found it too distracting to even enjoy and just read the print version I ordered when I had free time (obviously not while driving)

Would you be willing to try another one of Amanda Leigh Cobb’s performances?
I would be willing to give another a try. Like I said, I don't think she was the problem. I just think Jennifer Ikeda did such a spectacular job that it didn't compare.

Any additional comments?
If Ikeda declined to do this book off of something that can be remedied. Such as money. I suggest trying to fix it and having another version of the book. I have zero desire to listen to this book again and that is really unfortunate considering I travel and re-listen to my audiobooks frequently.

Give the Narrator a Chance

Narrator wasn't bad. I do love Jennifer Ikeda's work, but Amanda did a good job.

So good!

What does Amanda Leigh Cobb bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

As much as the original narrator would have been nice, Amanda did a fantastic job! She sounds similar to the first narrator and did a really great job!!

OMG

I could never put into words how much I have love this series. I have laughed and cried and swooned and raged more than I have with any book. I truly do not know if I will ever find another group of characters that I will love as much as I do these. Sarah J Maas as an avid fan and me. I will read anything that she that she chooses to write.

Completely immersed

After the last book I checked and checked looking for the release of this volume. As with the others in the series I find myself in mourning now that it's over. I don't want to leave this world behind.
My favorite fantasy series of all time!

fantastic book

I'm not entirely sure why the other reviewers didn't give the new narrator a chance but she does a fantastic job. it is hard to follow in the footsteps of another narrator but she managed to bring her own voice to the characters without changing them or making them unrecognisable. the book is a fantastic continuation of the series and I can't wait to read more from Sarah J Mass.
