Publisher's summary

A station at the edge of the galaxy is about to become the center of the universe.

Cedric the Brown is a wizard with a dark past. In an effort to make amends, he hides in plain sight among the residents of a space station he once nearly destroyed. Cut adrift by a bankrupt megacorp, the mobile mining station sets off to uncharted space in a desperate attempt to scrape by.

What they stumbled onto would change the course of the galaxy.

A planet.

A lost alien race.

A secret that will lead to all-out war.

How will a station filled with scoundrels and crewed by former miners handle being the fulcrum of history?

Astral Prime is a collection of all 12 Black Ocean missions chronicling the adventures of a mining station on the edge of known space, along with five short stories. This series follows in the traditions of Deep Space Nine and Babylon 5 with high-stakes space station intrigue and epic discoveries.

not as good as the other Black Ocean series

Not as good as the other Black Ocean series books but still solid. More than worth the 1 credit it took to buy them all at once. There were a couple characters that just drove me nuts which is why I could not give it 5 stars. Other than that I loved learning about many of the other races and their interactions with Argo and the AP characters. The other did a very good job at hinting at some characters and their relations/historys with characters from the other Black Ocean novels without relying on them. Well done, solid series, and as always Micheal Naramore is perfection.

Sure wish I had the ear of the universe..

J.S. Morin comes thru.. I now even distrust this sciencey thingy I'm writing this review on.. My data pad and has trapped a wonderful voice inside of it who is forced to read aloud to me upon my whim.. says his name is Naramore. Blasted technologies have enslaved another one, not quite sure how he fits in this blasted contraption.

Fun and energetic.

I like the premise of these stories but this one had parts that were just very odd and not typical. I enjoyed Galaxy Outlaws far more.

Builds the Black Ocean by leaps and bounds

If you've enjoyed the Black Ocean so far, and want more lore and expansion, this is for you. Some familiar characters but not the old crew, and Astral Prime does more to build the Universe. Don't waste your time pining for the old stories. Just enjoy the new characters and the occasional nod to your old friends. This is an epic tale that gets bigger and bigger as you continue.

These books hover around the former mining station--I mean it's named after Astral Prime so duh--but also stretch out across the Black Ocean. This is a way more in-depth jump into all of the different species and alliances. Ever wonder about the different cultures in the Black Ocean?

Once again, if you want the old stories just listen to those again. This is something new that brings more to the Universe.

good addition to the black ocean series

this collection vs the other black ocean collections was a little bit of a let down. the story was solid but got a little long winded and preachy with the ethereal introspection. and self justification of life then just sorta ended anticlimacticly. if you have already read the collections of the Mobius crew and mercy for higher and just don't want this world to end I do ultimately recommend this collection

length and complexity

I like the way the author interweaves the stories and lives of the characters. Looking forward to my next adventure.

Good but not great.

Initially I found the two main female characters to be unbelievable annoying. Eventually they just became a mild irritation to an otherwise interesting story.

The Japanese character kept using "ancestors" as some kind of interjection but as someone who has Japanese family living in Japan, I've never heard anyone ever use that kind of exclamation. It took me out of the story each time it was used.

The "love interest" of the Japanese character had to be one of the dumbest characters in history. She would repeatedly say and do things that someone with a 5th grade education wouldn't do or say. But we're supposed to believe she ends up in charge? I couldn't believe she could tie her own shoes let alone become some kind of leader.

Finally as a note to the authors. Please don't have two engineering type characters with nearly the same name and nearly the same way of speaking. It really becomes confusing.

However if you want something light and Star-trekky this will fit the bill.

I CANT STOP LISTENING

The imagination GENIUS of J.S. Morin and the story telling brilliance of Mikael Naramore. The characters and their voices put you into a movie in your head. I found it a bit slow at normal speed but at 1.25 Mikael Naramore is a master. I listen to all his story tellings at that speed and it’s a whole new world. I listen to everything sci-Fi that he reads and have never been disappointed.
I want to hear everything J S Morin and MA Larkin writes read by Mikael Naramore and I have purchased all of it.
