Publisher's summary

It all begins with a decapitated head found at the bottom of a dark well.

Bertram Stone is a former Texas Ranger running from the changes of an ever-evolving world. Horses were being replaced by cars. Laws were changing how Bertram could deliver justice. Wanting to live out his golden years in peace, Stone flees to the quiet town of Hamilton, Texas, where he becomes the local sheriff. In a small town where the law rarely needs enforcing, everything is going according to his plan—until a great evil plunges Hamilton into horror.

On the outskirts of town, in a small community called Deer Hollow, there is a ramshackle cabin where a man lives by the name of Eli Snow. He is a recluse, living away from other people. Nobody knows about the secret terror he has kept hidden away for years. A nightmare that is about to be unleashed.

Creepy and new

I liked the narration and the story was a new look at an old topic. Very well done.

Reasonably interesting story!

I appreciate the effort put forth on both the author and the narrator’s parts, but while I’m always game for a good vampire horror… something about this one wasn’t my cup of tea. However, the plot line was good, and the narration was distinctive for each character.

I did feel that even the goriest scenes were described with the same enthusiasm as a trip to the grocery store. 😅

The cover artwork though. WOW. Whole reason I downloaded this one. Christian Bentulan is such a talent!

To sum up for the author. Solid plot line. Engaging characters. Newel (not sure about spelling as it was audio) was my favorite.

Quick read

Overall, the story is really good not much twist pretty straightforward. Just didn’t really care for the performers voice. He reminded me that guy off the social network movie. Also would’ve been nice to had a couple twist in it.

Move over Stephen King

all around great book. I love that it took place in the 1920s and the characters were so well described

Plot interesting, story just ok

I may have liked it better if I had not been persuaded by the many five star reviews. I found it to be an average vampire story, with very few scary scenes. You can never lose when listening to Joe Hempel, so it could be worth a credit.

Great story

Great tension and vivid description. Lots of detail. I love a good horror story, but not twinkle vampires. This story was well read, though there were some odd pronunciations. For example, tarpaulin.

amazing book

ok, this has got to be my favorite vampire book since Dracula. I don't get scared reading books, but this one had me downright creeped out several times. Absolutely loved it.

Fantastic Supernatural Tale

I have long been a fan of Timothy Hobbs work, so when I found out he had a book on Audible, I knew what my next listen was going to be. The start was a bit slow, but not for long. The character setup was good, although some of the characters were frustrating in their refusal to acknowledge the supernatural. I wanted to slap some sense into some of them. Great story. I highly recommend.

Okay story, but the ending fizzled.

The story was okay (if just), but the ending left me very dissatisfied. I wasn’t paying attention to the time remaining, and had no clue it was about to end. It just kind of stumbled into a very abrupt epilogue and left me saying “Wait, that’s it??”
