Good story, terrible narration.
this was my first Beverly Jenkins book and I enjoyed the story's plot, flow and tone. I hated the narration, as the narrator repeatedly swallowed, made unnecessary and awkward pauses, and missed the tone of the dialogue. I've listened to books by other authors she has performed for, and had a similar experience.

Entertaining!
The beginning of the story with the Coopers was hard for me to tolerate the abuse, but I was excited when the Cooper daughter finally grew a backbone and stood up to her mother. Te storyline was good and each character developed nicely. I loved Logan! He grew to be my hero.
I can't wait to read the next book in this series considering the clifthanger that Beverly left us with :)

Learned something
I learned California was named after a Black Queen!!! This is earth-shattering historical information that I did not know or don’t remember learning. Thank you for writing this knowledge into a very good story!

Good story, bad narration
I typically like Shari's narration, but this was not the best book for her. Her accents are cringe worthy. But, the storyline was humorous and sweet so it held my attention.
