WHY ARE PARTS OF THE BOOK OMITTED?
I have read the book (copyright 1940), and am now listening to it on Audible while re-reading it. Immediately in the first pages, the reader omits whole paragraphs of the book. E.g. Pg 4, 2nd para first and second sentences, and 4th paragraph are skipped in the narration.
Additionally, the narrator sometimes reads without attention to the original punctuation and elocution such as depicted in the book by the use of Italics. E.g. pg 5, "This descriptioon begins by giving the gist of the whole matter, simply and concisely--that the goverment is to be upon HIS [caps indicate Italics in the book] shoulder." The narrator reads it without the Italics which omits the emphasis the author intended.
Page 7, 2nd paragraph, substitutes "resolves" for "revolves" which changes the meaning. The author was, of course, referring to Galileo's defense of heliocentrism (which Fox refers to calling it "the other controversy"). When one encounters errors such as these, one must assume there are likely to be others, and is cautioned to watch for them. I leave it to Audible to take it from here.
However, overall, this narration by Jason McCoy is quite enjoyable and it is very worth it to have the Audible of this truly marvelous book.
